Anyone get the chance to play the new AvP yet? I'm seeing some pretty mixed reviews out there. I'm torn on how bad I really want to play this. The non-working demo didn't give me too much faith in the game and it is developed by Rebellion who has probably the worst track history for any developer lately. However, I do love me some Aliens and some Predator. I can't even describe how close I was to pre-ordering the Hunter Edition just so I could have a facehugger replica. Now I'm wishing I did since it's going for $150 on eBay. Oh, well… that's me. Always regretting past choices.
ANYWAY, yay or nay for AvP?!
February 17, 2010 at 6:48 pm #57977emdeepeeMemberHaven't played it yet but reviews on metacritic range from 5/10-9/10. Guess it depends on personal preference and/or whether your a fan of the films.

February 17, 2010 at 7:49 pm #57982LIKEUCAREMemberIndeed, the game has too many mixed reviews. Guess reviewers aren't agreeing on the core components of the game. Though, if you'd simply do the average of them, you should get a 7/10 which in my book, is quite decent.
I don't like the game sounds though since their the same used in the AVP movies; which were very lame. I would've preferred the game to simply IGNORE the AVP movies since they badly sucked and just focus on the movies that truly mattered.
As for the level design, most reviews hit the spot as its supposed to be badly designed. Many review sites mention that same con so it must be valid. Other sites also mentions bad mechanics and poor controls (for consoles version).
Again, mostly all review were done on X360… I would expect the same kind of review for the PS3 but a PC review would be welcomed. Rebellion did stated that they focused more on the PC version… I'm eager to confirm that.
So far, ratings goes as this:
Gamespy gives: 2.5/5
Gamespot gives: 5.5/10
IGN UK gives: 8.5/10
IGN US gives: 7/10
GameInformer gives: 5.75/10
GamesRadar gives: 8/10If any would like to follow the ratings (if you care), have a look at http://www.gamestats.com
Think I'm gonna get it anyways, on PS3 since my dinosaur-of-a-PC won't run it for sure. And well, I did wanted a new PC but with current life issues, it'll have to wait. Well, one day, I shall experience this game on the way its meant to be played… As for the Hunter's Edition, it seemed tempting at first but I don't much care now. My EBGAMES store didn't had any in order and probably didn't received any. I should get a look tonight if they got one, if not, not too bad.
Sure, the game must be felt quite disappointing from the previous AVP games, but it should provide fans and other gamers, the fun game play for quite a time… till a better game comes out, which should be real soon.
Hope this help you Tridon!
February 17, 2010 at 9:21 pm #57988Finch_92Memberwell i couldnt even get one game in the demo due to the crap servers so i wont be getting this unless it has a very big price drop to say £15-20
February 17, 2010 at 9:54 pm #57990tridonMemberThanks for your insights, guys. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give this one a rental. Maybe I'll just hunt down that facehugger by itself in a year or two on eBay.
February 17, 2010 at 9:57 pm #57991parnakasMemberIn my opinion, i feel that this game is very meh. A mediocre experience. Nothing special, but its not crap.
I have played the online demo, and some of the single-player at my friends house, and i wasn't impressed, but it wasn't that bad.
So, i wouldn't recommend buying some special edition thing for it, maybe just the regular, if you are interested in the game. Give it a rent first my Canadian brethren! EH!

February 20, 2010 at 6:36 pm #58158emdeepeeMemberSome particularly scathing reviews have come in. 1UP (25/100) and Game Revolution (33/100).
February 21, 2010 at 2:27 am #58184dizzel22Membercan't believe this got bad reviews im just half way through the marines story and it's great , hope that's not a sign of bad things to come.
February 21, 2010 at 5:01 pm #58212Doc-BMemberI've seen some game-play footage of the game and it looks pretty average… Very pretty average…
I'll admit i ain't seen much but what i have seen def. doesn't make me wanna rush out and get it, or even walk very causally. The game seems very repetative, and pretty basic…
I think i'd rather play Turok!

Most games these days are repetitive or require multiple playthroughs for the platinum'.
I agree with you though this doesn't really have much appeal to it, the last game I played with any ties to this was Predator: Concrete Jungle on the XBOX. I think I'll wait till this is in the bargain bin and judging by how bad most have said it is I can expect to see it their soon.
February 21, 2010 at 7:11 pm #58222Doctor_RockMemberIt's OK. I'd say 5-6 out of 10 is a fair score. I've fallen through the scenery a couple of times and the controls have been unresponsive here and there but it's alright.
I did find that the campaign's are insanely short though! I had completed the Predator one in close to 4 hours and had dusted off the Alien one in 5 hours. The last boss with the Alien is insane!
I'd rent the game to see how you like it, I've not tried multiplayer yet so I can't talk about that I'm afraid.
