Hi all. I was just wondering if Ps3 are region coded?
Like lets say I buy a game from the uk will it work on a usa ps3 without problems?
May 10, 2009 at 3:54 am #25100P0kennyMemberI don’t know about bluray, but I think that the disks are regien based. However a game from the PS store should be fine.
May 10, 2009 at 4:02 am #25101P0kennyMemberI don’t know if this helps but…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc
It may contain what you need. I did have a quick skim though and saw that it does mention regiens somewhere in there.

ah!!!! i know the clear answer to this. Im using LBP as an example.
The actual disc is not region coded. If you buy LBP disc from UK but you live in the USA, you can still play the disc in the USA, no problem.
However. If you want to get DLC for LBP, you can only use the DLC from the psn store of the country you got the disc from. If you use the USA store, but you have a UK disc, the USA DLC will not work. Only the UK store will.

May 11, 2009 at 12:32 am #25178Ps3 FreakMemberHummm they must have changed it for Blu-Ray… On the Ps2 the games for example were linked with “PAL” in the uk…
May 11, 2009 at 12:58 am #25191P0kennyMemberprobably due to the fact ath a lot of people were getting their PS2’s ‘chiped’ so that they could play multi-regional games.

May 11, 2009 at 1:02 am #25195Yakumo89MemberI wouldn't doubt that it is possible to change your PS3 region code, but it could probably end up causing the system to malfunction.

Not that I am aware of, but I don’t think you need to. Except if you want to play DVD’s becasue Bluray disks arn’t regionised in the same way as DVDs. You can play a bluray disk from the EU on a USA ps3, but you’ll need a second PS3 account that is of the EU to play dlc for it. For example, you get Killzone from EU, and you by the new map packs on the PSN shop but your account is American. It wouldn’t work. But if you got an EU account then it would work.So I dought that your PS3 can be ‘chiped’ as of yet, because the information about the region is on the disk and online, but I think it might be able to be ‘chiped’ in the near future for DVD’s. But who would use a DVD on their PS3? Once you go Bluray, there is no going back.
