April 17, 2009 at 4:17 pm #23286shadeblackParticipantmy turn i guess.
first off, nice to meet you, Matthew. I have a brother called Matthew, so it doesn't seem to bad! But I'lll call you Coll if ya really don't like it. So, welcome to the forums!
There isn't really much to say about myself.
I'm 19, going on 20 in July. I adore Computers and love working in the I.C.T field. I am still studying (from home) and currently have a part-time job in the much less admired field of retaill.
I haven't been on my ps3 very much lately, as many already know. this is partly due to my studying, but also because I haven't really had the urge to play many games lately. In fact, some might find this silly, but the game “Flower” has actually inspired me to change my life around. Since playing that game, I haven't really felt the need to play many other games.
When the trophy firmware came out along with a few trphy supported games, I was all over it – I loved collecting the trophies. actually I still do! But after a while, I just had a sort of… epiphany.
Anyway… I started playing games when I was very young. I had begged my parents for a mega drive system. I was a huge Sonic fan (though, not anymore of course). I carried on playing games with quite a few consoles… SNES, playstation, N64, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Gameboys (GB, GBC, GBA, SP, DS etc.) , sega saturn, neo geo and even a few others.
Accomplishements? I would say:
completing Pokemon green in 1996 in Japanese at age 9.
Completing Shadow of the Collossus' last boss in Time attack mode in under 9 minutes, which took a quite a few tries. (this isn't a huge accomplishment, but I was happy with myself afterwards :D).
Depending on how you look at it, Building my first PC from scratch was an accomplishment.
and finally, getting my first Platinum trphy is always something i think everyone remembers.
********
So i guess that's a quick backdrop of me. But I want to finish up by asking collbreast something.
I've been looking forward to meeting you for a few days now, because someone messaged me on the ps3, saying he was your friend. He was talking about something I had said on a particular topic in this very forum. put simply, he said everything i said was wrong – he insulted me many times, and continued to write about you. I messaged him back and told him to take a hike. Once again he came back at me with several more insults.
I can see that you're a nice guy, and I thought you should know that there are people like this who will use your name in vain.
so… the question? In your own words, what do you think makes a good / great gamer?
April 17, 2009 at 4:48 pm #23289CollbreastParticipantthanks shade 🙂 and i do prefer coll 🙂 pretty good read there 🙂 lol sounds fun, my mum did that with her computer, i on the other hand cant even made a toffee pudding without burning it, let alone make a computer 😀 im still searching for a job but in this town you dont get anything without a huge pair of knockers on your chest, im telling the truth lol
i love the trophies but i will be stopping around november, because there will be the arrival of cod6 😀 and fifa 2010 which i will be focusing on lol some good accomplishments there lol 🙂
his name didnt happen to be m-legend- … did it? :S i dunno what was said but i dont think it would be usuing my name in vain would it? anytime i hear of anyone on here it has only ever been good things tbh, well apart from when me and pobert had a short convo tbh lol about how i feel on people not getting 100% on games and then claim to be the best. i think i had you on PSN before shade but dunno what happened, anyway i have sent another FR and it depends in what context shade… for trophies i say a great player iss someone who has determination and dedication to finish a game completely and not go through the story, some trophies, move on and then brag about their total amount of trophies.. thats just silly and i dont see how anyone can see it as an accomplishment, yeah people may not have time but still its nothing to be proud of… thats like scoring against man utd once in football but then being thrashed 10 -1, and just boasting about scoring 1… sorta lol
anyway i think a great gamer is someone who, has relatively decent gaming abilities, has a laugh with anyone, knows when to take things serious on a game and when not to… and if we mean being in a clan, knowing that you do not have to win every game, you cant be perfect straight away, you will make mistakes, just gotta learn from them and move on… 🙂
what about you shade.. whats your definition? lol 🙂
April 17, 2009 at 5:03 pm #23290RaptorguyMemberRaptorguy here – – 33, married male, Columbus Ohio USA, Geologist, was 1st in line at the local Walmart 56 hrs before the PS3 launch…The PS3 is the center of my home entertainment system (52' 1080 Samsung, wireless internet, keyboard, mouse, linux installed on partitioned 120 GB HDD, 500 GB external drive, all my music and pictures are on the PS3, wireless connection to the upstairs PC via Windows Media, and have Blu-Ray nights weekly with friends. I play ALL games, download a lot off the PSN, and hear the jingle of those trophies unlocking in my sleep (haha – not really). I love playing all games and seeing how they look in HD and I am always testing my surroung sound subwoofer! I have limited time & cash so I rent ALL games on my blockbuster unlimited pass. LOVE THIS SITE – – come here daily and multiple times during work….its the best place for trophy lists, guides, and hints on how to save time unlocking those tricky ones…ALL of my friends on the PS3 are from this site (all but 1, the guy I grew up with just got a PS3!)… MY ADVISEe: Play often, play anything, enjoy life, and appreciate the technology (not all of us grew up with this cool ass stuff).
April 17, 2009 at 5:10 pm #23292CollbreastParticipanti agree lol and i watch outt raptor, someone might try rob ya 😀 i would for that stuff oj, but id love a bigger tv, and id rather not mess with my HDD tbh, only thing itll do is decrease its life coz i messed with it lol

April 17, 2009 at 10:16 pm #23300kingofgames73Memberthe names liam. aged 14 turning 15 on the 28th of april. at the current time im panicking over coursework which i should have done on holiday but instead i did my fallout 3 trophy guide which is complete and should be posted tomorrow (hope you all like it). i live in the middle of nowhere and the biggest attraction is the graveyard. Gaming life started at around the age of 4 with the segamegadrive’s sonic then onto the GB (or as i call it The Brick) with pokemon red (still got the cartridge not the console, 64 of the pokemon ar level 95+ yh i know sad) but my gaming really kicked of with the PS1, i still play driver 2 from time to time. I dont know what really started my gaming life. i just do it. prehaps its just to ’see what happens in the next level’…..you know what i mean?
April 17, 2009 at 11:29 pm #23303XeroTheGreatMemberLet's just say my name is Luke. I live in a nice little village (that gets shit internet) in the UK. I'm currently also panicing about coursework because i have shitloads of it, unfinished, and in by next week. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but yes, i do spend most of my time on the PS3 or on the computer. I play on the smallest LCD ever (15-inch Panasonic) which likes to turn off all the time in COD matches. I've spent most of my gaming life on MMOs, including Puzzle Pirates and WarRock, but that was until i got a ps3.

my definition of a great gamer is pretty much the same as yours, coll. 😀
I can't remember the exact name of the person insulting me, but that M-Legend certainly does ring a bell somewhere in my head. Normally I wouldn't complain about such trvial things like this, but I come to this site to have a good chat, to help out wherever I can (like most people on here) etc. What baffled me is why this person was/is so agressive to me.
Nice to see you finally posting, dude! I look forward to chatting with you 🙂
Very nice set up as well! mine is very similar, but I do things sightly different. also, my TV isn't as big 🙁 but I think the 40″ is still good enough for me!
April 18, 2009 at 6:27 am #23315CollbreastParticipantthats good to hear lol i thought it was a good definition tbh, that really is what i believe though and if it was him lol its only because of how strongly he ( and i for that matter) feel about those darn trophies and the people who collect them. people have changed now and so have their views on trophies, well some people but it was when there were only a few games with platinums out and it was people who played different games not to 100% and bragged and tried to rub it in peoples faces for having a bigger total but those people who did continue in their quest for perfection lol me and m legend for 2, recieved no recognition, he is very civil and a good laugh most of the time lol, just if sumat annoys him, he's off on one. im not trying to start arguements by any means, that is just his and my opnion.. so anyone like that, dont take it to heart and i only have a 26″ tv but it does me proud lol got it off ebay for 200 quid and made sure it was black lol to match the ps3 😀 i guess im proud of all that because i paid for it all myself, with my job, that makes it so much more special when its in its place, knowing you earned every penny of it, this was the same story for my ps3, lol 2 months of treating myself to nothing, stealing my mates cans of them lol booze 😛 and not wasting any on sweets . i remember walking into town with 550 quid cash in my wallet, thought i was gunna get mugged haha
April 18, 2009 at 1:31 pm #23328Nath-The-GreatMemberHey all!
Names Nathan, im 28 and im a gaming addict. First remember owning a Atari 800xl way back when, and been playing games ever since. Other than gaming i love music and films. My best achievement is probably my fallout 3 platinum not because it was hard but because i love the game. My psn is same as user name on here.
April 18, 2009 at 3:48 pm #23357shadeblackParticipantpaying for the equipment yourself is certainly a good feeling. what's even better is that your parents can't take it away because you're the one who paid for it! haha.
@coll
once again though, I am/was a similar person with more or less the same situation. When the trphies first started coming out, i worked hard at getting 100% on all the games i could do, and all the games I didn't have to, but did because i thoroughly enjoyed it. Then there were games coming out with trphies that i didn't even bother to get because i really only get a game because i think i might like it. Eventually people got more and more trphies than me. The point is, trophies mean pretty much nothing. tphies don't define a great gamer. I know plenty of excellent gamers, who don't care squat for trophies.
If having my own opinion means I get a mauling by some guy who disagrees and doesn't have the guts to come on here and even bother to reply, but rather reply via a ps3 message, which was anything BUT civil, then personally, I don't think this guy has any clue.
Personally, I don't think I've ever really bragged about my trophy cabinet because I've always known people with more than me. I get trophies for fun – and fun only. If this guys intent is to ruin that, then he has some serious issues.
April 18, 2009 at 6:24 pm #23366parnakasMemberi agree with shade, trophies do not define a good gamer
i have a friend rank 300 something in the world in KZ2, WITHOUT boosting, and he has like 20 trophies…
trophies show nothing other than ur dedication maybe, but not how “good” u are at gaminganyway, coll, do u not like the name Matt?……… thats an awesome name (my name to!!)
April 18, 2009 at 7:53 pm #23370KnoxieMemberWell harrow everybody, ima steven, 14, live in newcastle, england and support newcastle (they ARENT goin down!) & well i love my ps3 & play quite alot…. started gaming on N64 & GB…. i owned all GB`s but i think ive lost most of them now & i used 2 play pokemon alot & mario kart, haha. i play football 4 a team & my best achievement is prob bein below 1000th in the world at 1 point on cod4 (thought it woz good at thee time) & this woz like afta it had been out 4 about 6 months or so! i hav quite alot of trophys but only 1 plat (CoD WaW) as i rather get trophys along the way then try my heart out 4 them lol well anyways hope 2 get more achievements (& trophys!) in MW2 & Fifa 2010 YEEEEEEAAAAAAH! so thats me & hope 2 cya`s on da ps3!

April 19, 2009 at 2:12 pm #23337CollbreastParticipantto be fair though, on killzone, thats easy, i was getting around 200 points a game, no cheating… only 1 i boosted for was crappy defense ribbon with pobert couple of times.. and your name is also matt? lol 🙂 yeah i dont like it, i dont know why, i just prefer coll or collier 🙂 and i never said that trophies define how good you are, how ever i do believe being able to get 100% on a game makes you good or not.. some people cant get 100% others refuse to for some reason, i just dont see why.. might as well finish it to perfection.. anyway im not saying trophies makes you good lol ill play ya on fifa 2010 lol knoxie, and i see you managed to win all gold club tourneys on fifa.. how lol
and well done (Y)
