You can't go wrong with most of Frank Millers contributions to Graphic Novels (Batman, Daredevil) alongside his own work (Sin City, 300. Although I really wasn't a fan of Ronin). Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are quality too.
For something a bit different I'd recommend Garth Ennis' Preacher series. Absolutely class.
December 24, 2009 at 1:06 am #53606pool96MemberI am 13 and if I don't go to bed too late at night I always read a small bit, the last novel I read was “The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas” but the ending was ruined on me because I had already seen the movie, but still and excellent book.
Since then I have been reading “The World According To Clarkson” which are compilations of newspaper columns by Jeremy Clarkson who works (or worked I don't really know) for some English newspaper. I have finished the first two volumes and am getting stuck into volume 3.
I can see why school can put someone off reading though, we just started Romeo and Juliet in English class (I know it technically counts as a play but meh) and I am not enjoying it at all.
But to the contrary in Irish class we are reading a novel called “Dunmharu ar an DART” which translates into “Murder on the DART” DART standing for Dublin Area Rapid Transport or something, it's a commuter train in Dublin anyways and it's actually pretty good, man dies on train, main character takes his case by mistake, case full of money, man and wife run away to Greece with stolen money, dead man isn't actually dead, starts hunting them down, wife gets murdered, main character goes on killing rampage. And that's only the first three chapters 😀
Sorry for the long post.
December 24, 2009 at 2:02 pm #53627XeroTheGreatMemberIf i ever manage to get into a book, then i'll read it through to the end, but it's hard for me to get into one. I have a load of books i'd like to read, but i just keep forgetting about them.

December 24, 2009 at 7:15 pm #53673I773D33MABL3MemberNice to see a good bit of support for the graphic novel. Far too many people write them off as comics for kids.
The Silent Hill series is quality although you might need to read them twice before you can get your head around what’s going on. It’s very easy to get distracted by the insane artwork at times.
Anything by Ben Templesmith (the artist behind the Dead Space GN) is usually gold. His Wormwood trilogy is one of the funniest things I’ve read and Fell: City deserves a sequel more than anything else on the market.
One of the better known GNs out there is Arkham Asylum and I only read this after playing the game. Definitely a recommendation to anyone. A damn sight darker and deeper than I was expecting.

I read all the Harry Potter books and it ruins the movies IMO, I know they cant physically fit in everything from the book into a movie but still.
I haven't read Eragon or seen the movie so I might check out them books.
I am on the last book of Darren Shan's Demonata, I got it for Christmas, he is one of my favourite authors.

December 30, 2009 at 6:23 pm #54158NinjacatMemberYeah, it looks turd. Saw an ad for it when I saw Shrlock Holmes on Monday.
December 30, 2009 at 7:21 pm #54164NinjaMidgetMemberPs3 Freak is right, always read the books before you see the film, although watching the new sherlock holmes movie no makes me want to read the books! The inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini is amazing (eragon, eldest and brisingr). Didn't really want to watch the film though as I didn't think it would do the books justice!
Usually I finish a series of books but I can't bring myself to finish Darren Shan's demonata series, I think I might have just grown out of his style of writing as I started reading his Vampire saga when I was twelve. But I would recommend those books to anyone!
