Very nice guys.. called me crazy a few posts up.. i wont argue with that! lol

Kingofgames73 – stairway start to finish? Congrats! did you use tabs? i always do it by ear, way more of an accomplishment, and then you can play the song you want to play it. If you want any challenging songs on guitar, just ask, i can give you plenty of songs that will kill your fingers .

Chuck Palahniuk books! Primarily, Lullaby, Inivisible Monsters, Fight Club, Choke, Haunted, oh hell, read all of them! Warning: extremely strange mature and often times disgusting content contained within. Especially Haunted, the first part actually made me want to puke several times, it was rather disturbing. Anyway, barring that, other hobbies are good too. Learn to juggle, skateboard, fruit boot (rollerblades!), or how to not impregnate girls while performing the reproductive action. At the very worst, get a job. Money is always useful.

lol, yes i did use tabs and a whole lot of video tutorials off youtube, 2 that i remember in particular are bobbycrispy and mike schwartz from smashjamz.com or something, extremely useful vids though, bobbycrispy is a bit too fast sometimes though, think i’ll fine tune stairway to heaven before i move on to the next song lol, need to get confident with more bar chords and im still getting a slight buzz when pulling off. not quite ready to play by ear yet, it takes the piss when ive spent ages learning the solo from videos and tabs then my dad picks up the guitar and does it first go from ear! can’t wait to be the same…

The way to start learning things by ear, is to know scales. 90% of solos in songs, are composed of a scale. Once you figure what key the scale is in, you can depict which notes you will be playing in the song. Also, take into account the band that the song is by.. each band usually has a similar style of guitar playing, using the same scales and whatnot.

I used to hate the F Chord.. when i had to bar the 1st frets on the E and B string, it used to kill me! Its all about your Thumb positioning on the back of the neck believe it or not. It helps me plenty! If you still have trouble with them, move your thumb around, until you get a nice spot.. it really helped me!

I much prefer the barred F chord rather than pressing down F on first string, C on second and so on. It doesn't feel natural that way. I prefer the sound from the bar chord anyways, feels fuller.

haha i actually had real troubles with the the F major kept getting a buzz from the either the e string or B string , i only started to do it good when i switched from my dads acoustic to my fender strat, guess an acoustic you have to push down harder, the chord i had the worse trouble with was G lol, and i think i know what you mean about the scales thing, i learned the stairway to heaven solo and then later learned it was basically the Am scale or something, guess i’ll have to learn that one day if it makes life easier
