Em mentioned it in another thread, just thought I'd make the idea happen.
Has anyone played it? What did you think?
It is very GOW-esque. And, I don't like GOW. Though, this was mildly amusing, much like I find GOW mildly amusing I suppose. Nothing special in my opinion. Still, it's getting alright scores.
One thing I have to pick on though is, why does the main character make so much noise when he's walking?! Like, he's wearing armour, but the sound is as if he's wearing a full, heavy suit of armour! Ridiculous!
I couldn't play it without thinking of Psycho Mantis going, 'Sooooo, you like to play Castlevania?'
LOL!
October 14, 2010 at 1:12 am #67238I773D33MABL3MemberI have a copy of it but I haven't played it yet. The scumbags at GAME.co.uk only announced the release of a shiny collector's edition after my regular edition had been dispatched. So the CE is ordered and the copy I have is being sold to a friend, hence no playing.
The gameplay footage I've seen does look similar to GoW but that kind of comparison happens when a previous IP “defines” a genre. Just like the way every third person shooter with a cover system immediately has it's similarities with Gears of War pointed out.
But I think Castlevania looks like it's going to have a little more depth. With Kojima tinkering with things there's no way the story can be as straight forward as GoW!
December 2, 2010 at 6:10 pm #68242I773D33MABL3MemberWell my CE arrived quite a while ago but I had put it on ice until I finished up with Enslaved. I started into it last night and so far I'm loving it.
The graphics are awesome, the fighting has depth and already the story is pulling me in. From what I can gather looking at the map the game looks like it has a decent length and with the number of collectables and trials to unlock you can double or triple the play-time to get the plat.
And, best of all, it has an excellent level select for replaying chapters. I think this should be compulsory for any game with collectables. It even lists everything in a level and whether I've done/got it or not.
I loved Enslaved so playing Castlevania straight after meant it was going to have to be good. So far (with the exception of facial animations, Ninja Theory are unreal at this) it's coming out on top.

Just finished my first playthrough and while the game remained excellent throughout, I have to admit I'm a bit let-down by the ending. It's the only part of the game that I can sense Kojima's tinkering and, unfortunately, not in a good way.
I thought the twist was a bit crappy but still totally over-shadowed by the clumsiness and melodrama of Zobek spending five minutes explaining his dastardly plan to the about-to-be-dead-but-not-really Gabriel. And while I can't think of a single plot where it would be a bad idea to throw in Satan, I'm honestly getting a little tired of Kojima trying to heap twists on top of each other and meandering on with his endings that aren't really endings because you know he's going to lump something on after the credits.
Maybe I'm being unfair to him and he hadn't the influence I'm accusing him of, but there was more than just a whiff of MGS's never-endingness(!?).
The FMV after the credits was cool looking but I'm still in need of someone to explain what the Hell it was about. Gabriel is a vampire? Zobek is alive? Satan's now after them both?
It's a pity, because it's probably the only part of the game that drops below excellent. It's a shame that most people seem to have ignored it as well. I haven't seen anyone playing it on my friends list (and I seem to be talking to myself in this thread!) which is bizarre considering how much hype there was for GOW 3.
August 10, 2011 at 6:31 pm #70386I773D33MABL3MemberWell the DLC is fcuking HARD. I went straight in on Paladin and managed the 'Reverie' chapter okay but the boss fight in 'Ressurection' is just impossible. I can't get anywhere with it. I know what I'm supposed to do but my timing is just so rusty I haven't got a chance!
August 10, 2011 at 6:48 pm #70387HardAndSloppyMemberWell this was a good game, but over all it was kind of a disappiontment. They said they could match the quality of GoW3 but they didnt. The story was pretty cool, except for the ending, like u siad. What happened at the end *****SPOILERS***** was gabriel ended up being a vampire, a.k.a. dracula, and him and zobek have to defeat satan now. Kind of stupid ending if you ask me.
