@ gr8
That's exactly why I'm pessimistic with the co-op, unless there is a choice or something at the end, not everyone will be able to experience the full game since you'll basically be playing two different games.
Just to throw into your point with the death of either protagonist, what sees fit to me is if there's some sort of sacrifice type thing going on or something final stand where only some people could survive, but not everyone with Carver being the one to die. The reason, I believe his backstory is something where his family was butchered by the necromorphs or something and he's only in this to destroy the thing that killed his family, or the source in this case. So basically, I think the ending will play out with Isaac finding Ellie, while shits going down, Carver says how we need to get out of here, blah-blah, there's no way out, Isaac decides if he can make a right, or save someone, it has to be Ellie since there has always been that little slice of love going on Carver does the heroic thing, touches Isaacs shoulder, “No, you actually have something worth living for…” Epic line that will live on for the ages, Isaac wants to fight Carver but Carver talks him out of it because Ellie is something Isaac did right or was able to save, unlike Nicole, then Carver throws in another epic line to signify why you should cry, “When the time comes, we'll meet again” then something to give some remembrance to his family, Isaac leaves with Ellie, Carver does either a last stand act or has to touch some panel, BANG! “We've lost so much, but there's time to rebuild all of that,” another epic line from Isaac while he holds Ellie.
Or EA's vision….
Vice-versa, Isaac is finally able to rid himself of his demons if he decides to do the whole sacrifice ending type thing with Carver says, “You don't have to, there's always another way,” with Isaac replying, “You know there's not.” Carver having finally realized Isaac isn't a bad guy and how much of a dick he's been throughout the entire game decides to give his apologies, “I'm sorr-” Isaac interupting him to the usual, “There's not enough time, you've got to go!” Pushes him away and while Carver looks back witnessing Isaac watching the sun set, with Carver saying, “I'm sorry.” “Just GO!” replys Isaac. Carver flies away, Isaac dies some sort of death, and the universe seemingly saved from the necromorph threat with the death of a hero.
Since ending #2 doesn't mention Ellie, she either died during the course of the game or her fate is never resolved which with either one, her “journey” or “experience” throughout the game will be sold as a $9.99 DLC “expansion”.
January 26, 2013 at 11:37 pm #72810Seibei4211MemberWhy are you even thinking about the story this much? You say you don't want to hate this game, but you've just created even more ways for the game to disappoint you. If the story matches your predictions, you'll just be “I thought so” and your opinion of the game will remain unchaged. If it doesn't match, the only way your opinion of the game will get better is if the ending's actually better than you thought. And you're already prepared to be mad at EA (who have little/nothing to do with the story) if they have a cliche ending that you've fabricated?
By the way, this is unrelated, but I've been wanting to know how this works for a while. You dislike Call of Duty and other series that churn out the same crap year after year, but when Dead Space 3 tries to change, you're pissed because it's different? If you had never liked Dead Space in the past, and you didn't like the sound of this one, then fair enough. I just think if you're a fan of the first two, then at least play the third one (for real, not a demo) before you absolutely decide that it's awful. Again, fair enough. It did take me, for example, 12 chapters of Spec Ops before I started liking it at all. I could've just stopped 6 chapters in and said it's the worst thing ever and everyone's stupid for thinking otherwise. I mean, wasn't it annoying that I was bashing that game before I even knew the whole story? I don't know if I'm going to like Dead Space 3 more or less than the previous two, so I'm going to wait until I've played a good portion of it before I make that judgment and keep the speculation out so it doesn't cloud my opinions before I've even played it. Because I wanna be fair, especially with a series I've liked so much in the past.

I won't hate the game if the ending is the same thing I've just predicted, unless it turns into something completely outrageous and goes against the series. I've played games in the past I where I knew exactly what would happen since it was spoiled for me and have still enjoyed them (Batman: AC, Army of Two, Resistance, etc.) so just by predicting what the usual cliche ending in the third act and especially last installment of a certain character's arc will make me disappointed? Take Mass Effect 3 for example, every single person including myself should've saw what the ending would be for the franchise (except for the crazy bullshit “twist) when they first picked up the game, I predicted the what would be the ending of the game months before it came out, even during the initial stages of Mass Effect 2. I played through the entire game and was blown away at how immersed I was, etc. and when getting to the ending (or at least a few minutes before the craziness), I actually really enjoyed the way the bad assery of Shepard's arc was ending. If the ending turns out to be nothing that I've speculated, I won't bash the game, unless the ending is just out-of-the-blue and drivel, but more than likely accept it even if it turns out to not be good. I'd actually prefer them not to go the usual cliche sacrifice-type ending since that's how most story arcs end now.
Dead Space is changing, yes, but it's becoming essentially what every other game on the market is right now. If I was some random casual gamer out in a local game store, what would motivate me to pick up this title? It's basically a generic third person shooter (from the demo) with the whole cliche “Save the world” type plot in it, why pick this up when Mass Effect 3 is on the shelves with the exact equivalent story with even better gameplay for what? $20 instead of $60? And I've never said that this game was awful, since the game isn't out for consumers like myself and I specifically said that the demo was, “… Fcuking garbage…”. With Spec Ops, it wasn't annoying that you were bashing the game, but from my understanding I personally thought you had missed the entire point of the game when you said they kept bashing how killing was bad and the choices were easy which didn't require much thought. There's much symbolism in that game with some beautiful moments shrouded with such a dark emphasis on who these characters really are and how what they're doing isn't particularly right or in some cases, wrong.
I'm going to give this game a chance when I attempt the co-op, since again, I've only tasted a tad bit and it was a demo. It'll be nice seeing how this game picks up and how Isaac and Ellie has been dealing with what happened in the last installment. I'm going to judge this game off it's own merits (or at least I'll try), and have my expectations at decent. It sucks that the demo is a poor representation of what could potentially be a great game, but whatever.
January 27, 2013 at 2:16 am #72812Seibei4211MemberOh my God, this is what I'm talking about. How do you know that this game is getting watered down and becoming a generic third person shooter? How do you know what the plot is? How is the general plot any different from the other games anyway? The general plot has always been to stop the necromorphs. Look at the first half of that second paragraph of yours and tell me you're unbiased – that you haven't already created some negative preconceptions about this game based on very little evidence. Then the next paragraph seemingly contradicts that.
And yes, I realize you didn't use the phrase watered down or the word awful. I'm simply condensing a sentiment into a word or phrase. Looking back at the things you've said about this game so far, it would be easy to get the sense that you think this game will be awful. And yes, game. You've made many statements about not just the demo, but the game itself.

I hope you know I originally wrote that ending stuff as a joke, but this has gone on too far. I'm just not going to say anything more on this game. It's releasing in a week and if you're super curious of what I think, just message me once I finish this game since my opinion has already stirred up some controversy
@ em
Who's Phil Collins? As for the trailer itself, it ceased to impress or get me eager for the game but when the angry guy's face pops up, I couldn't help but chuckle

February 15, 2013 at 12:11 am #72947scotty243MemberI know I said I wouldn't put my opinion up for Dead Space 3, but whatever. To be honest, I don't even know what to feel about the game. It's not good, nor is a bad? It's in-between to the point where I just don't care? It's in that limbo sort of state where I don't feel as if I lost anything nor did I gain anything (aside from a few trophies). Yes, there are tremendous problems with this game that outweigh the very few good things, however I'm not particularly angry at this title whatsoever. Yeah, I was quite pissed during the last act of the game, so to speak, where the difficulty went berserk and offered moments where I had to just walk away. Saying all of that, the one thing that kept me wanting to push through this chore of a game was the characters, their interactions, and their motivations. While this game doesn't have fantastic writing or anything, I was still invested in Ellie and Isaac's “relationship” which truly played out like a good soap opera, to say the least. The relationship and characters were good to a point of me just sprinting through entire levels towards the last few missions just to get to the next cutscene. However, the main plot of this game is garbage. The plot twist is dumb as shit, the “secret” message just caters towards another sequel, and the ending including it's final stage as well, was downright terrible.
Basically, this game is limbo. I don't feel as if I wasted my money nor do I feel as if I received the quality and quantity for my buck. It's whatever.
Also, for those looking to play this game: Just do it all in co-op since this game is dull by yourself.

Pretty much, yeah. Hoped it would be better, but whatever. If this game was single player only, it would be kind of unbearable. The co-op missions were pretty awesome though. I'd rather have a game full of those.

Awakened (although I keep calling it Alarmed when I talk to Scotty about it )

Hell yeah!
