well ouch a bad evening for British teams in the Europa League.
Liverpool went out to Braga after falling to a dull 0-0 draw (losing 1-0 on aggregate)
It's fair to say Liverpool tried hard but there just wasn't enough quality in the team, and the play was too predictable giving long balls up to Andy Carroll all night long. There just wasn't any speed in the game until David Ngog came on glad to see an improvement from him after the Sparta Prague tie, an improvement from Joe Cole overall aswell I think but still a bit from his best.
Manchester City won but lost on aggregate 2-1 against Dynamo Kiev, Mario Ballotelli again in the spotlight for the wrong reasons and Rangers succumbed to PSV Eindhoven (The dark horses for the competition)
Interesting Champions League tie, no Barcelona V Tottenham final though
Champions League quarter finals:
Tottenham Hotspur V Real MadridBarcelona V Shaktar Donetsk
Inter Milan V Schalke
Chelsea V Manchester United
Europa League quarter finals:
Porto V Spartak Moscow
Villareal V Twente
Braga V Dynamo Kiev
Benfica V PSV Eindhoven
You would feel Portugal would have a good chance of taking the Europa League with Benfica, Braga and Porto all still with a chance but I am going to go with PSV Eindhoven
As for the Champions League you still can't look past Barcelona
Champions League Semi Finals:
Tottenham Hotspur/Real Madrid V Barcelona/Shaktar Donetsk
Inter Milan/Schalke V Chelsea/Manchester United
Europa League semi finals:
Porto/Spartak Moscow V Villareal/Twente
Braga/Dynamo Kiev V Benfica/PSV Eindhoven

March 31, 2011 at 11:17 pm #69400gangadeenMemberWell as a tottenham fan i kinda wanted real madrid, chelsea or inter, shaktar d would destroy us away from the lane, then play at the draw when they come, schalka would beat us because we would under estimate them and man u always beat us and the other team does not need mentioning! i need to stop guessing which team we draw as it seems whenever i tell a few ppl what team tottenham will draw, we draw them ( GS = inter 1st KR = ac and Qf = real M). But if i put that aside real M is a good team for us as they wll sruggle home & away due to the 'underdog' effect, but i almost cried when i saw the semi final draw which i wont be explaining

I'm a United fan but The Spurs v Arsenal match tonight was one of the best games of football I have ever seen. Both teams played like their lives depended on it and you couldn't take your eyes off the screen. The skill and tenacity shown by both side put the rest of the league to shame.
I was actually cheering on every move by both sides and every shot was either a good goal or an awesome save. I pity what ever poor sod had to pick the Man of the Match
April 23, 2011 at 3:10 pm #69502KnoxieMembercmon the toon! we can take the seasiders today! hope it isnt the same result as last season or earlier this season..
May 8, 2011 at 8:25 am #69649emdeepeeMemberAn excellent result for the Toffees today. Moyes has got a hell of a record against Man City (7 wins out of 8 ). Great goal from half-pint Osman too. Just a shame we had such an awful start to the season or we'd be in CL position

Osman has been an unsung hero for Everton during the 2nd half of this season! I was very impressed with how yous turned it around to say the least.
Half the players look like they're on their holidays already, which annoys me, but hopefully the toons last game of the season WBA at home will be a win because I don't see us getting much from Chelsea away!
It's about scouting the nations thoroughly to find some talent to spend this £35m (probs only get £20m but y'know) on now!

Are you sure you don't want Crouch or Pavyluchenko? I'm sure their worth at least £35m together…

I'd probably take Pavy for up to £5m like! However, I wouldn't take Crouch if yous give us £5m as well, I just don't rate him at all. :L
The FFC – Pool result tonight = . Maxi, Kuyt and Suarez are in scintillating form!

It was completely embarrasing!
I'll give it to pool, they were a different class on the night, but some of our defending was very uncharacteristic! Ah well, I can see Liverpool as serious title contenders for next season, especially if Dalglish can get the best out of Maxi!
Also, pretty funny how Chris Baird has been charged by the FA… but Rooney does the same thing yet gets away with it Good to see the big teams get away with the little things still…
May 12, 2011 at 2:39 am #69687I773D33MABL3MemberIn all fairness, Rooney doesn't get away with a whole lot. The guy is only just back after a ban for something that nobody (excepting the tabloids) really gave a crap about.
That said, I do agree that the FA are pathetically inconsistant with who and what they decide to charge.
May 15, 2011 at 4:26 pm #69737I773D33MABL3MemberGreat performance from the Toons today getting them a well earned point. The back four were solid and made a mockery of Torres.
May 15, 2011 at 7:31 pm #69746iiDiNkStErRMemberYeah good point, that's what I was trying to get at I suppose the inconsistency of the FA with these sort of decisions is pretty ridiculous, while I agree Baird should have got a charge for what he did, other players do it all the time, so these sort of things need to be given more consideration!
Any who…
Another great day of Football!
Firstly, great to see Rangers lifting their 54th league title and what happened in the Wigan – West Ham match summed up the season really; just pure unpredictable awe!
Great to see Fulham claim another away win too if only we had won more than 10 of our last 100 away games………… :L
