I would say the best system for local 4 player Party games was the N64 as far as games go. These are my TOP 3:
1) WCW/NWO revenge (1998) on the Nintendo 64
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W…..Wo_Revenge
I played this game with two of my best friends almost all the time. The gameplay and controls were great. I loved how you could do a variation of your finishing move off the turnbuckles. There were soooo many characters you could play with and all of em were great. Favourite characters in this game were Scott Hall, AKI man and Buff Bagwell. Nothing beats a top turnbuckle Razors EDGE. Also playing as the Frankinstein looking bastard was fun as well. Honestly I think I played this longer than World of Warcraft (no longer an addict thank GOD)
2) Super Smash Bros. (1999) on the Nintendo 64
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S…..Smash_Bros.
I played this game with my girlfriend and one of her friends most of the time, but occassionally we would get 4 player game marathons that would last all night. I can't count the number of times we set the lives to 99 and played for a few hours. It would always be close though. She was the one girl i knew that could beat me at a video game. I played religiously as Samus, she would play as Pikachu and her friend would play as Ness. My good friend liked Captin Falcon. It got to a point where if we would all have to decide to play as other characters because we mastered those ones. some of the best competitive gaming ive ever played.
3) Super Bomberman 1 or 2 on the Super Nintendo (1993-1994)
I played this game with neighbours of mine almost every weekend. I remember renting a multi-tap and then just keeping it because this game was sooo fun to play. Very competitive. Again the game mechanics were great. Controls were very responsive and there were lots of different power ups to collect. Kicking bombs and picking on certain friends with bad tempers was always fun.
July 7, 2009 at 2:27 pm #29843BigWoopMagazineMemberWoah woah woah!!! if you're gonna talk N64 4 player party games, how in the world did you forget about Mario Kart?! and goldeneye! Hah, actually I hated goldeneye, by that time I had already been in some quake clans and by comparison it was just soooooooo slow, but all my friends loved it. However I have always had a great love for mario kart, and to this day the 64 version is still my favorite. Unfortunately I don't own a 64 so….
On the PS3, there seems to only be a few, which is dissapointing, because I went out and got 4 controllers and have hardly ever used em. I guess it goes to Little Big Planet and Rag Doll Kung Fu, since they're so simple and silly, girls generally love 'em. I'm told Rag Doll is a lot like a watered down version of Smash Bros… which is a game I never had much opportunity to play. PAIN is good for a few rounds too with some drinks… nothing like gettin' drunk and launching people at brick walls. If I'm having some real gamers over though, it usually ends up with CoD4.
July 7, 2009 at 3:27 pm #29866PS3 TrophiesKeymasterDefinitely Mario Kart on N64!
On PS3 the games we've had the most fun with 3-4 local multiplayer is Buzz Quiz TV and 3 on 3 NHL Arcade.
July 7, 2009 at 3:34 pm #29859BigWoopMagazineMembercan you get 6 people in a local game of the 3v3 NHL arcade?
July 7, 2009 at 3:42 pm #29860PS3 TrophiesKeymasterNo I don't think so.
July 7, 2009 at 3:57 pm #29868BigWoopMagazineMemberI just wondered… the ps3 has the ability to link up to 7 controllers at a time,,, but I've never seen a game that supports more than four. Even then, there are few of those compared to the number of games that support online play. Maybe that new bomberman game on PSN can? that seems like a game you could get that many people into. It just seems strange to me to make it a point to have that feature and not use it.
July 7, 2009 at 4:14 pm #29869PS3 TrophiesKeymasterBomberman is also 4 players locally.
Fifa 09 has 8 players locally I think.
Biggest reason developers don't use this feature is probably because it's very few gamers that has so many controllers.
July 7, 2009 at 4:47 pm #29870BigWoopMagazineMemberyeah, I could see that. I just feel like a lot of games that have the online mp, wouldn't it be pretty simple to put a split screen mode in? I remember when I first got my PS3 for christmas, I got a second controller and motorstorm came with it, I was so excited to race my brother. It took a little bit to realize that I couldnt, and was so enraged at how stupid it is to make a racing game where you can't race the person sitting next to you. Those controllers are expensive too,,,
That game Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars is a kinda fun party game too,,, fun to try to say it 5 times fast. I mean, its not my all time favorite, but its good fun and easy to learn, and I think simplicity is important for a party game.
July 7, 2009 at 7:33 pm #29884emdeepeeMemberBuzz Junior Jungle Party. Only because I can play it with the wife and kids
July 7, 2009 at 7:35 pm #29885NodanodMemberWel… on ps3 crash commando and burn zombie burn would have been immense party games, but crash commando is single player locally only 🙁 and although burn zombie burn has a 2player, it would be much better with a 4 player:)
*p.s – Any1 know what burn zombie burn space is gon2 be like?*
July 7, 2009 at 8:29 pm #29892parnakasMemberparty games?

ahhhh…. I hate those games. I'm better off heading north and having a jam session with my old roommates… I can play whatever I want then, instead of blue blue green red… blue blue green red… (I'm talking about playing a real instrument, thats one thing I can't get into the virtual version of)
July 8, 2009 at 7:00 am #29912ThickbrowMemberAdmin,
I totally forgot about Mario Kart! I played that tons as well.
Buzz with the controllers is really fun as well. I have played it tons and still have plenty of games where I don't see the same questions which is nice. You can also download new question packs which is a great idea (they cost to much IMO, i've been waiting for a bundle pack…or for them to add trophies for those packs).
3v3 NHL Arcade should have got higher reviews IMO. My friend traded in his copy of NHL and D/L'd that game. Now we play it online and when he comes over to watch Canucks games.
I also wanted to say that Split screen games are not all that great. I like the games where you can play on the same screen (bomberman, wrestling games, smash brothers). I guess thats from growing up with a small tv at home 🙂 HD tv's may make the split screen easier..but now it is all about online play.
