June 11, 2009 at 6:05 am #27970AfroFishMemberabout time one of the best classic games came to the PSN Store. ahh this brings back the memories
June 11, 2009 at 10:37 pm #28008shadeblackParticipantheh. now we can start working on FFVIII and FFIX! 😀
June 19, 2009 at 9:36 pm #28452shadeblackParticipantsoo…let's talk about what style people use…
what characters do you use?
what materia do you prefer?
Ultimate weapons and max materia, or just get what you can?
gold chocobo?
favourite point in the story?
your worst point in the story?
I use Cloud, Tifa, and Nanaki (Red XIII)
cloud has most my strength materia, tifa with my backup and healing materia +E-skill, while Red often has my Skill materia and is my second backup for both healing and Deathblow.
I alwas got the ultimate weapons for my main three, not sure about the others. But I never got a gold chocobo because i had the worst luck ever! So I never got KOTR summon. beating jenova and sephiroth without it was a better challenge though, so that's definitely a plus in my books.
favourite part in the story is probably Cid and the rocketship – it's really inspirational and you really get to feel Cid's feelings. Another favourite is of course the obvious death scene.
Worst part in the story is the bit where Cloud goes into a coma and the story drags on a bit too long. it feels like a century has gone past when you get him back! And battling without clous is irritating as the other characters are never as strong.
anyone else?
June 19, 2009 at 10:32 pm #28453BigWoopMagazineMemberFinally! someone wants to talk about this! Well when I was younger and this game was fresh, I actually went through and did EVERYTHING possible. yes, that means I got all 8 huge materia. If you remember there are two ways to get them, four each… one is to beat Ruby and Emerald weapon, by far the hardest thing in the game to do, and the other is to fully level up every single type of materia that exists. So… I prefer to use those… hah. but by the time I get them, theres really no point, except just to say you got 'em. Any who, This time around I'm doing things different than I ever did before, so at least some of the experience is new. Right now I have Cait Sith as my magic man, and Vincent as my middle man. They both have pretty decent HP early in the game, and vincent is a good all around character… I'm not a huge fan of his limit breaks, but I can deal with that. For the moment as far as weapondry goes I'm just trying to see how much of the game I can remember for acquiring those, so whatever I can find. Cloud is the power in the game, so I always have him with an Lightning +All combo, or something similar, whatever my best summoning is, and cover (I sometimes switch the cover to help others get the next limit break, but its best on cloud to build his limits up). Right now I have added effect + toad on his weapon, which is nice, but I'll probably change that later. My middle man vincent has time+all (I haste A LOT), and any supplementary magic (bio, heal, etc), plus one summoning. Cait sith has the rest of the power magic, summons, cure all, revive, and any elementals I can fit. Someone always has steal on as well (Cait sith right now), cause I never used it before and this time through I'm trying to see what each enemy has. Its really saving me a lot of money and effort, you get some good armor and weapons early doing that.
Favorite moment is hard to say… theres so many good ones! which is exactly what I love about this game, it has so much emotional intensity going on that I still connect with to this day. I never felt that with the other games. For the moment I'm going to say when you first reach the northern cave, and cloud's connection to Jenova becomes revealed… but I have a feeling that by the time I finish I'll have changed that thought. Its a great turning point though, you have a great background set up for every character, and then all of a sudden everything gets flipped upside down, with your hero losing control, and the weapons waking up.
The coma scene is probably the worst part I agree, but at the same time it at least explains a lot of the little nuances going on in Cloud's story, so is definitely a necessary portion of the game.
how about favorite mini game? from what I remember, its the snowboarding, I got really good at that. I'm still working on getting there, I think its soon, since I just left nebelheim. I think I need to get cid, visit wutai, and then the forgotten city, if I remember correctly… then… snowboards! woo!
by the way, for the gold chocobo, your base chocobos are really important (Great and good?), and you need to go to the correct areas to catch them, its not totally luck based. I remember one of the areas is outside Cid's hometown (forget the name), and the other is… pretty much anywhere, but I think south near where the lifestream comes out of the planet… not sure tho. One thing I do know is that it really helps to upgrade them all to 'S' Rank before mating. Easy peasy… hold R1 and R2 the entire race and your stamina slowly refills… you can sprint almost the whole thing,,, and the only way you can lose then is if the black chocobo racer is in there. Good luck!
June 19, 2009 at 10:33 pm #28454BigWoopMagazineMemberwow thats a novel. sorry. I just remembered, you can also get the gold chocobo by defeating the emerald weapon. It gives you an item (can't remember the name), that you bring to an old man in Kalm. He then gives you the chocobo…. I think.
June 20, 2009 at 12:37 pm #28460Nath-The-GreatMemberIm glad i started this thread and people want to talk about it now 🙂
I use Cloud as main, with Tifa or Red XIII as healers, then swap out third spot to level everybody up. I always make sure Cloud has enemy skill materia, which i think is the best materia – Beta ftw! lol. I distribute summon materia around everyone, and give evryone some attacking materia i.e. fire, lightning etc
As im playing through the game i find myself thinking “i love this part” over and over so to pick a favourite part would be impossible – i just love the whole game. And although the part with Cloud in the coma is slow, your still playing FF7 so its bearable lol.
And i really, really hope they add FF8 eventually to the store because that would give me a reason to play that again too. Good times!
June 20, 2009 at 1:21 pm #28467kingofgames73MemberI’ll be joining in soon! just finished downloading and installing 🙂
June 20, 2009 at 8:24 pm #28473shadeblackParticipantyeah the whole part with the gold chocobo… although i had the right ingredients to make the chocobo, I just never had the luck to ever get one… i remember trying day after day and re-checking everything i was doing, while my brother did it in one day! 🙁
my brother has some weird luck y'know…. I know it's off topic, but when we were much younger, we used to collect pokemon cards. my brother picked a pack he stole from my hands because it had a picture of charizard on it. I then had to find another one for myself. and… well you guessed it! He got a charizard in that first pack that I picked out!
hmmm… would that be HIS luck or MY luck? :/
anyway, my favourite mini-game was the mog game! lol.
I loved the chocobo races – back when i played it originally, I had a black chocobo – which won EVERY race I put it through! It was amazingly fast with A LOT of stamina. Black's chocobo is the way to go if you can't get a Gold.
June 21, 2009 at 4:36 am #28475edge4eva32MemberFINALLY I got FF7 on PS3. This is hands down my favorite game of all time. I remember when I first got it when it was released on the original playstation. I had put in countless hours into this game. Much like what alot of players have done with World of Warcraft. I used to love using the Knights summon. Wow, let the fun times roll again.
June 21, 2009 at 10:43 am #28476P0kennyMemberI just finished the first mission… spent about 10 minutes talking to Tifi and this bloke that looks like Mr. T and I am confused 😛
June 21, 2009 at 6:25 pm #28502shadeblackParticipantdon't give up on it though! If it's the first time you're playing it, you will be very confused until the story unfolds. just keep playing and it gets better and better over time – I promise!
And yeah Barret (Mr. T) is the character I don't like at all. but eventually you get about 8-9 characters to choose from.
