January 29, 2009 at 11:05 pm #20791shooter0784Memberi'd be so f**kin pissed off if my ps3 ever remotely screwed up or died on me cuz i have the original 20gb launch sku with a 120gb drive installed… i see no reason to have like a 250-500 gb drive right now…
and i thought they stated several times that blu-ray pwned hd-dvd and that the ps3 is the only fully featured blu-ray player on the market right now… there were rumors that blu-ray will fail in the near future to movie downloading/streaming but i dont see that happening unless they change the bandwidth limits for most ISPs and the movie providers allow decent hd movie streaming…
i havent had any trouble with my ps3 since launch day and nor has anyone i know that has 1 .. and i kno alot of people that have ps3s lol
January 29, 2009 at 11:12 pm #20793Ps3 FreakMemberIf you get the problem with the blu-ray drive thing were your ps3 cant read disks (not that i have it) is it just the blu-ray laser or something else???

it doesn't really matter. products like disc drives are class 1 laser products and should not be opened or tampered with. a problem with the drive needs to be repaired, whatever the problem is.
January 29, 2009 at 11:29 pm #20797Ps3 FreakMemberI was just thinking you can get ps3 with broken disk drives for like £30 & blu-ray disk drives ive seen for £50-£60… so if i didnt care about breaking the warranty would it be worth trying to fix one?
January 29, 2009 at 11:32 pm #20798shadeblackParticipanti guess it's worth a try if you know what you're doing. i would advise full anti-static equipment… and a repair level of 50. lol.

Okay so here is an update.
I contacted Sony again to inform them that I knew they were fixing this problem for free for a lot of people. This time I got a, Jim, from Sony on the phone. He said that I was full of crap and that everyone who says they got it fixed for free out of warranty was a “flat out liar”. So he told me to either cough up the $149 or enjoy staring at my broken PS3.
Needless to say that I got his badge number, and spoke to his supervisor. That went alot better actually. However, I still paid $149 to have it fixed. I informed Sony that if they fix it again, then the new blu ray drive better be factory new and not a refurbished drive. He informed me since I am paying for a replacement that it would be a new drive. Thank God. However, I may not get my original 320gb hdd back since the screw is stripped and cannot be removed. They did that for me back in October and sent me my ps3 back with the new blu ray drive, so that i can get my hdd back.
I am still very irritated at Sony. Please……..samsung….make a console.
if onl;y samsung made ps4's……. my phone , my chelsea shirt , my dvd player …. i dig samsung products…

March 19, 2009 at 12:14 pm #21867thedaxxmanMemberEdge i'm having some similar problems. Whenever i pop in W@W or boot penny arcade from the hdd it just stops working. I don't understand what is actually going on with it and i called tech support(i actually got a nice dude to answer) and they told me to pay $150. But thats money i dont have. I live on cereal and candy bars for gods sake. I'm pissed. I bought the ps3 so it wouldn't break down and what happens when i get out of warranty. The damned thing stops playing games. But it'll play some games? Not the ones i just coughed up $60 bucks for?!?! Its ridiculous. I actually started to think about calling tech support and threataning to buy and xbox if they don't fix it for free.
March 19, 2009 at 1:05 pm #21868PS3 TrophiesKeymasterSounds like a HDD issue to me, try reformat or install a new one.

this happened frequently to my old 80 GB HDD..i think it's the overusing of the console which did this so i changed it to a 320 GB Tosihiba HDD which works perfectly and now my games run smoothly again..so i'd suggest changing your hard disk with a larger capacity or same one it's upto you..
I was thinking of also buying a 7200 rpm HDD rather than the normal 5400 rpm but i had doubts that it might affect the performance of my PS3 and overheat it..is this true?

I don't think it's worth it, it will not overheat but it might sound more. And the performance gain isn't so big…slightly faster install times and load times (from hdd).
