February 2, 2010 at 8:20 pm #56782Doc-BMemberI'd rather have to play a game a few more time's to get all the trophies, rather than play it on easy to get the trophies quick… Getting a few silver and gold in the process of playing hard+ is rewarding, but for me it's the challange that's the real pay-day.
I think it's even worse, personally, when people buy a game and guide at the same time… I've seen it happen so don't think it doesn't, why not just buy the guide and read it as a book, save yourself the money… That's even lamer than playing it on easy, some might say…
I know this doesn't happen as much now with the Internet being so cheap and readily available… And i have myself used online guides to find scattered items in a game. Mostly after running round a map for a week, almost loosing the will to live – The one shard i just can't find on infamous (F!*K) But using it to play through the story missions, please…
Just a thought cause it's kinda on the same wave-lengh… kinda … Wouldn't want them to remove easy mode though 'cause then it would be a pain to find the collectibles i miss… Would be funny if some games had a “wooden spoon” trophy for doing something really, really lame in a game… Not for the plat, just for a laugh with your mates… If only, lol…

are people who play on easy pussys ? or smart ? wich are you ?
Neither. People who play on easy just aren't looking for a challenge, but usually just something to occupy their time. I always start on normal, for a couple reasons. First, I'm always rating a game in my head. Part of that rating is going to encompass difficulty. On normal mode, the game should offer some challenge, but be conquerable by virtually anybody. Second, if I buy a game then I have all the time in the world to play it. Therefore I'm going to take my time with it by starting on normal, and progressing by going to the next hardest difficulty each playthrough. If its really a great game I'll play all the difficulty levels and enjoy it, but if its bad at least I won't have wasted a ton of time on it, because I'll have only done normal mode. My third reason is for the same as some people listed why they would start on easy – to learn the game and its mechanics. I do feel that if you need to set the game on easy to learn how to play it, then theres something wrong with the game, or you're a slow learner. This should always be doable on normal. Games that truly shine in their harder modes require you to know the game mechanics well, and are often times more fun to play on the harder modes once you do. i.e. God of war 1 & 2, Bioshock, Uncharted 1&2…

i don't like this comment…
you're basically saying “People who play on easy just can't be bothered, and lack the drive to play on harder difficulties.” It's negative, almost degrading and insulting.
To apply this to another example, let's say World of Warcraft – people who play on RP realms and enjoy roleplaying instead of main aim to level up and grow stronger means they can't? It insinuates they are unfit to enjoy the game in the social realistic manner as set by standardisation.

Though I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound like that, or perhaps I'm over-analysing it, but what I think would make a better statement is to say: “People who play on easy, regardless of their skill level in the genre of game in question, may perhaps be looking for something other than the often unrealistic difficulty of the game. Though the sentence is almost the same, it implements a deeper understanding of the focus group.
On a more personal level, I don't have a standard of the difficulty i set for any particular game. It depends entirely on what the game is, and what the individual difficulty setting offers in terms of game play. With Bioshock 2, I automatically put the difficulty to hard mode without vita-chambers. It's fine with me because I enjoy the challenge of getting the trophies involved, and I know from playing the first game roughly what it's going to be like.
However, let's say there were no trophies involved, and there was only a single player mode. Chances are, I would be playing it on normal, or even easy. Why? Because I've always enjoyed the story of a game far more than the game itself.
To sum up, every person is different, every game is different; and every instance of the two, is different. Whatever someone's reason for playing a game the way they want to play it, what gives anyone else the right to discredit that?
