This can be the thread where everyone can review and give their thoughts on God of War III. Now, I haven't played the game yet minus the demo (I'm still at work) but I did pick up my Ultimate Edition during my lunchbreak and I'd like to let everyone know what they're about to get into.
The box for the UE itself is made out of a much sturdier cardboard than the usual special/collector's edition so I was instantly happy about that. However, after opening the box, I will say that I was somewhat disappointed. The Pandora's Box that comes enclosed is made out of plastic and is only a little bit larger than a PS3 game case while it lays flat. I assumed that it'd be a ceramic box so the fact that it was only a plastic replica put a bit of a damper on my mood. Give or take, though, it is still a very cool replica. The detail on the box is immaculate.
Once I opened Pandora's Box (which, funny enough, comes with instructions on how to properly open it; I definitely laughed at this), I was greeted with a super cool art book. A hardcover and a decent amount of pages on top of a sweet cover design makes this one awesome incentive to own the UE. Under the artbook was a thin piece of white cardboard. After removing this, I found my biggest problem with this Pandora's Box;
The inside liner of the box is made of a black felt-like fabric. Sounds cool, right? It's not. The fabric sheds more than my household cat. In a matter of seconds, I was completely covered in a black dust of sorts. It was like a plague that spread over everything before you even realized it. It's very messy and very gross. The game and sheet that includes DLC codes were completely coated in this fine dust. After spending minutes cleaning off my game, my clothes and my artbook (which was also attacked my this evil substance), I closed the Pandora's Box and decided that I'll probably never open it again. Like Kratos said, “in the end there will only be chaos”. That's exactly what I experienced opening up Pandora's Box.
So there you go. Whether you buy the Ultimate Edition of God of War III is entirely up to you but now that I've seen the contents up close and personal, I can honestly say that I'm debating whether or not I made the right decision in purchasing it. All the DLC and the artbook are definitely the saving graces here but still, for the additional $40 I spent, I definitely expected better. Oh, well. I'll be killin' Gods tonight with my ol' pal Kratos and that's all that really matters, right?
If you picked up the UE, what are your thoughts?
Happy gaming!
March 16, 2010 at 7:00 pm #59916MiiiitchMemberDefinitely not worth the money, well I don't think so anyway. The DLC will come to PSN in a week, I've already got 3 God of War art books so I don't need another and have already platinumed GoW Collection. The only thing I liked in it was Pandora's Box but now I know it's just cheap plastic I'm glad I passed on this. I'll no doubt pick up a copy of GoW 3 tomorrow to see how it is, so far I've heard only good things from friends already playing it so I remain hopeful.
March 16, 2010 at 9:38 pm #59928czesionyoMemberI just bought normal version since Pandors Box is to expensive here. I played for like an hour but I had to get of to work. I almost took a Day on Demand because of this game – it is so good. For me this is GotY .
And BTW the box is dirty and all becaue it is old like hell :P.
March 16, 2010 at 9:43 pm #59930mocte32Memberjust bought my copy today but i'm in school so i had to wait until 9 f**k i want to play already
March 16, 2010 at 11:04 pm #59933parnakasMemberI just got the regular disc i can gladly say: This game is brilliant.
I know thats what everyone is expecting, but believe me, it really lives up to the height.
The graphics are probably the best on the current-gen systems, the action is brutal, and the fight sequences are just breath-taking.
However, its not perfect. It gets dull at some points in the game, and i feel like some scenes drag on, and the story is just mediocre. And dare i say it, but some parts are too violent. Yes, i just said that.. Its not a bad thing, but some of the stuff in this game is just unecessary!
But the first level in this game, is easily THE best level i have ever played in any video game.
im going to put some SPOILERS… So dont read on if you dont want a spoiler!
****SPOILER*****
Poseidens death is hands-down one of the best death scenes i have ever seen, when you go into those first-person things!!
****END SPOILER!!!****
In conclusion, this game really lived up to the hype, and is just an amazing game on every level of gameplay.
March 17, 2010 at 1:06 pm #59951Antony19MemberI bought pandora edition and this game is amazing
About the story
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Read at your own risk. This reveals lot about the story. Only those who have finished the game should read
Can someone explain me why Kratos kill him self with the blade of Olypmus at the end?
March 17, 2010 at 1:12 pm #59952MiiiitchMemberWhen typing spoilers try to change the text colour to white and mark the start and finish with a * I don't mean to sound bossy but just writing SPOILER over again and having no spaces under it is pretty lame and it's about impressions of the game not spoilers.

Well if it makes you feel better, than sure we'll try to do it next time..
And i only put a spoiler in there because i am talking about a scene that really made the game special for me.. so i think a spoiler was necessary. And in my post, its really not that hard to skip over where i put a spoiler, so i dont see how its a big deal.
Anywho, i beat the game after playing it for about 9 and a half hours straight with my friend. So awesome. The ending was weird if you ask me though. Another thing i would like to say is that i think they really tried to focus on the story in this game, and there are some pretty cool cut-scenes.
March 17, 2010 at 8:58 pm #59960BigWoopMagazineMemberUtterly Epic. Superbly Badass. Invariably Ridiculous. Pure Distilled Awesomeness on a Hot Slab of Cool.
Thats it, thats my opinion….
@Parankas – too violent? You do realize you're playing God of War, right?
@Tridon – let that be a lesson to you – special editions of video games are NEVER worth it. Ever. Best off buying the regular game and saving the extra dough for…. another game!
@Miiiiitch – its a good point. I noticed people on another forum doing that… I will do so from now on, except saying :::SPOILERS:::: here are the spoilers ::::END SPOILERS::::
Its kind of a trick of the eye and mind though, when someone says spoilers I know I don't want to read it, but my eyes still go there anyway! I had a really hard time skipping over Antony's post, I think because it was mid sentence, put parnakas' was easy, maybe because of the line breaks? I dunno…

Yea lol, i know.. but i felt like some parts, the violence and gore was just unnecessary, kinda over-the-top too much. I mean, i don't think it takes away from the game, but hey, i just thought i would throw that in there.
Still, its a brilliant game, and if you don't have it, you suck. Its that simple people!
March 18, 2010 at 11:59 am #59977gow2rulesMemberaround 4hours in its really good a bit dissapointed at how easy the puzzles were no real mental challenge oh well but the bosses really are impressive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i winced at herme's death as kratos cut off his legs and also the ending of the hercules battle is downright brutal pow POW POW POW POW but its keeping in with the greek mythology and how violent it is / also i love the greek mythology throughout the it so far which most people wouldn't know unless they knew it before hand
love it can't wait to finish it 2morrow night
March 18, 2010 at 1:55 pm #59981parnakasMembergow2rules – Yea, now that i think of it, the puzzles were ridiculously easy, which is kind of a disappointment. It seems that because this was the first game on the console, they wanted to open it up to noobs of the series. Oh well, still an amazing game.
And yes, that battle you were talking about with the major beating was so damn brutal!!! This game has some of the best boss fights ever!
March 29, 2010 at 3:37 am #60333czesionyoMemberFinish it on friday. This game is going for GotY.. Thats for sure :D. Anyway fight with Zeus is little disappointing (too easy) but till this game is the best one since U2 :D.
Just 3 more trophies to plat :D. Wish me luck.
March 29, 2010 at 4:24 am #60337Ratchet525MemberI have to say this is one of the best games ever made. 3rd best ps3 game..Cronos was fcuking amazing! I loved the first part of Zeus's boss battle where its sorta like Street Fighter. I loved so many things about this game. The ending was perfect to the series. Just love this game.
March 29, 2010 at 7:20 pm #60354BigWoopMagazineMember@Parnakas – puzzles are never difficult anymore. According to a Mr. Pachter – “Gamers don't want to have to think”. ::::raise middle finger::::
