So I was playing MW2 tonight, just unlocked the AK-47, killing some n00bs then my PS3 crashed. At first I thought the electricity flicked on and off so I went to turn it on and it dawned on me. Yellow light of bloody death. MW2 is still in there so should I force eject it, Knoxie what did you do?
Does anybody have any idea is it the HDD or the actual Playstation?
December 22, 2009 at 12:11 am #53364Ratchet525Memberi think you should force it out. But… wtf is up with all these YLODs?!?!?!?! Seriously man. It seems like its mostly happening to the people from UK and who were playing MW2..
December 22, 2009 at 12:39 am #53367r23drummerMemberIm getting MW2 for christmas, scared now D:

I agree with Ratchet. Though it is happening to people for the US as well. So that narrows it down to the game itself as the major cause. How many hours are you guys playing this game? Maybe want to pick a different game for christmas r23drummer. this game was overhyped as it was. get U2 or AC2 as people playing those games don't have any system errors as MW2 players do.
December 22, 2009 at 12:46 am #53370ideal4livingMemberwoop woop modern warfare 2 sucks <
JOKES! im not a big fan of it, and it is just way too much overhyped, glad to se4e it die a little insideDecember 22, 2009 at 12:56 am #53372xxKnightmarExxMemberedge4eva32 said:

Totally, get AC2 for sure, I never had any problems with it…people complain that there trophies are glitched but I guess it's just luck of the draw because mines perfect.
December 22, 2009 at 1:25 am #53376czesionyoMemberDamn. Sorry to hear that red. I think I will skip MW2 then as this is like 7th thread about MW2 ruining PS3 . Good that I got AC2 and DJ Hero on my bday

i got it 2 a few days ago i feel ur pain lol. i had tekken 6 stuck inside the way i got it out was to have the ps3 off at the back switch hold eject for 15secs keep a hold of it then hit the switch at the back then hit the power button at the front and wen it comes on it shud stay on just long enough to get ur disc out thats the only method that i managed to get to work although my ps3 was loud as hell it sounded like a jumbo jet taking off wen i was doing it
December 22, 2009 at 11:14 am #53385pool96MemberWell it turns out it's not the YLOD but some heating problem, either way its dead.
The light flashes red then when I go to turn it on it goes yellow for a second, green for a second then flashes red again.
December 22, 2009 at 11:22 am #53388Finch_92Memberyep mine flashes red as well its basically the motherboard has been fried due to overheating theres videos on youtube of how to fix it basically you need to take ur ps3 apart and use a heat gun on the cpu and gpu on the motherboard to get the data to flow again there are step by step instructions on how to do it although u might just want to buy a new 1 or phone sony and pay there stupid amount of £128 to get it fixed if ur out of warrenty
December 22, 2009 at 12:14 pm #53401kingofgames73Memberi seriously doubt a single game can be the cause of the YLOD, most people are playing mw2 now and the same amount of people as always are getting the YLOD so it appears that mw2 is causing it, yet it is just a coinc-i-dinc..
December 22, 2009 at 2:52 pm #53423parnakasMemberWhat i don't understand, is how a PS3 could crash due to a game.. Interesting.
But in pretty much every case i have seen, it has been MW2 inside the system.
KingOfGames – No one used to ever complain about there PS3 getting the YLOD, but recently, there has been a lot if it going on.
If anyone can find out any info please post it! I'm gonna see if i can find anything.
December 22, 2009 at 2:57 pm #53424Collbreast_23Memberi personally dont believe any of it.. a game cannot affect something like that in a console.. the only time ps3s break are with owners not looking after them properly, over heating from constant use, or something electrical… dont blame the game cause you dont like it. not aimed at you parn btw just people in general
December 22, 2009 at 3:04 pm #53426parnakasMemberColl – im not blaming the game at all, i just said i find it weird how it can be a single game affecting this YLOD.
I think it is just that the systems are overheating, and people just so happen to be playing MW2 at the time, as it seems to be popular at the moment.
Redbren – i know it is a HDD failure issue, but im not sure if it is just the HDD or a combination of the HDD and the system. Did you have a different HDD in there, or the stock one? Maybe that could be an issue…

Technically it would be possible for a game to do it, if its driving so much CPU power that it causes overheat. Having played a decent amount of MW2, I doubt that it would do this. My fan rarely kicks into high gear unless the system has been on a few hours, regardless of what game is in it. If your ps3 is not longer under warranty, and you don't want to shell out the $150 to fix it, you might want to consider trying this:

I haven't done this personally, but it looks like a pretty reasonable way to fix it. Basically hes just applying a thermal compound to the CPU area to help relieve the heat, which is usually what causes the YLOD. Good luck man.
