Doc-B might be right, if you have no warranty, and don't want to drop $150 on a repair that comes with only a 90 day warranty… you could fix it yourself, sell it, buy a brand new one that comes with automatic 1 year warranty. Not sure if thats worth it, you'd be lucky to sell it for $150, unless you do e-bay.
January 27, 2010 at 6:25 pm #56329ecurryMemberIf you follow the guide and do it right there is no reason why your PS3 shouldn't last as long as a refurbished model at least.
If you were considering sending it to Sony read on first. In Ireland Gamestop (EB games in the UK) where paying out 210 euro for a second hand PS3. A new slim costs only 300 euro, win win situation. Think about it like this, you have 3 choices:
- send it for replacement (Sony do not repair your model that was sent in they send you one they have already repaired ) Pay 150 euro and receive a refurb lose all your saves
- trade in a fixed one and buy a new model for 90 euro, Keep all your saves by doing a back up to a FAT32 device
- Fix the YLOD and enjoy it! Keep all your saves
Sony will accept a PS3 outside its warranty for a refurb whether the warranty sticker is there or not! As will Gamestop or your equivalent.
EDIT
I accidentally double posted the download link for part2.f4v it should have been part3.f4v here is the link fo the 3rd part :
February 6, 2010 at 11:18 pm #57061gav150483MemberHi guys, quick question for yoy regarding ylod. I have recently followed your guide and repaired my ps3, only problem is it now starts up,solid green light but i am not recieving any video or sound through hdmi it then switches itself off after about 30 seconds. Any help would be much apppreciated! Cheers Gav.
February 6, 2010 at 11:21 pm #57062gav150483MemberWhoops put my question as a quote!
February 6, 2010 at 11:27 pm #57063ecurryMemberTurn the PS3 on and force the PS3 to power down by holding the button above the green light for about 20 secs this should reset the video settings and when you restart it should request the user to configure the video display.
February 6, 2010 at 11:30 pm #57065Doc-BMemberHave you tried holding the “on” button for a few seconds till it “beeps”… If you disconnect your Ps3 you need to re-configure it's optimal output settings…
Other than that i've no ideas… You might have touched something interal you wern't suppose to by mistake?
February 8, 2010 at 6:48 pm #57267gav150483MemberI have tried that but no luck, i have a hdmi cable connected at the moment, does it have to be a composite cable?
February 8, 2010 at 7:06 pm #57270ecurryMemberTry using the original cable (scart) that came with the PS3 and check the source channels on your tv for a picture
February 8, 2010 at 7:07 pm #57271Doc-BMemberIt should work with the HDMI, if it's gonna work… I'll try and get a more informed opinion and write back…
*EDIT* Ninja'd – Was gonna check with gnilsia if he'd been on the thread recently but it seems he has…
February 8, 2010 at 7:50 pm #57277ecurryMemberI just tried the resetting video on my PS3 there and it took me a few goes to get it right. I presume your model is either the 60GB or the 40GB console. The steps for resetting are as follows:
- Turn off from the back
- Turn on from the back
- Press and hold the on button at the front until it turns itself on and then back off again (3 beeps and then 1 beep before it goes back off)
- Power off from the back
- Power on from the back
- Turn on from the front
This should display the video settings screen with your HDMI for definite. Try inserting a Blank DVD in the drive when in standby mode and see if it will power on the console from stand by mode and allow you to eject it again. When you put the console back together did you make sure to reconnect all ribbon cables?
September 30, 2010 at 8:01 pm #66910Rangefinder FXMemberIve recently got mine fixed from the Horror of which id rather not speak of, and i cant get my wireless Internet to work and its really fraustrating has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know what to do? i would really appretiate the help.

Did you fix it yourself or did someone else do it for you? The wireless card is really easy to damage (I've seen one completely snapped off) and if you're not able to pick up any sort of signal then that could be your problem.
When you scan for networks are you finding anything at all? If you are finding a network but just not connecting to the IP then your card is probably fine and the network (router) might just have the gay.
September 30, 2010 at 9:36 pm #66918Rangefinder FXMemberI tried scanning and it came up with the error code 80130128 and it doesnt find anything and i got someone else to fix it i didnt whant to risk damaging it but it looks like the wireless card must be damaged then, on top of that it takes an age for my ps3 controllers to sync with the ps3 could that be related.
September 30, 2010 at 11:50 pm #66920I773D33MABL3MemberIf both your controllers and net are having an issue then there might be a problem with the motherboard because they have nothing to do with each other signal-wise. It could just be loose connections or a wire that was left unplugged.
It might be worth opening it up yourself and taking a look. If you just use the assembly instructions in this thread (skipping the actual YLOD fix) then you could spot something that was missed.
