oh yeah and galileo did state that the earth revolves around the sun among other things, so you do a bit more research.
March 22, 2009 at 3:02 pm #22173kingawolMemberand not that i'm trying to agree with anybody here , but in galileo's days the Vatican believed the earth was flat. no cubes involved. flat earth , heaven above , hell under.
March 22, 2009 at 3:38 pm #22174parnakasMemberi love when shade gets into these discussions….its awesome lol
ok, im gonna aim this at the the MAIN POST.
i would love to join, but i have a question (really sorry, i was too lazy to fully read 1st post, but i just scanned through it)..
does this involve leaving the ps3 on for a long period of time? Because i am a very, very high energy consever. Everything in my house is unplugged when it is not being used. I only like to leave my ps3 on for 5 hours at the most, then turn it off for 1-2 hours.
Oh, and i am a high contributer to cancer research, we have all these events like marathons, canoe racing, etc. and i go to as many as i can, and raise money.
1 more thing. Yes good point about the smoking, and how they only want to make money off of it, but i really dont think there is a cure for cancer YET!! But i do have hope that cancer will be cured 1 day.
March 22, 2009 at 5:42 pm #22183kingofgames73MemberErr KILLER sorry to tell you this but the supercomputer used by the US military/government in Los Alamos nuclear weapons research laboratory only produces 1.46 petaflops, but folding@home produces just over 5 petaflops (quite a difference) so the worlds most powerful supercomputer (or at least it was on the 24th of february) is indeed in stamford uni
Ok back onto the topic- i have a few questions too because i don`t quite understand some stuff-if i was to fold for lets say half an hour then quit would i have done anuthing or do i have to complete each4-8 hour unit? and can i download demos/games off the PSN store while i am folding? thanks in advanceMarch 22, 2009 at 8:45 pm #22184KILLER369Membercome on shade agree with me about this atleast, Bc ppl are just jumping to conclusions.
i never said shit about Los Alamos. i said the american military has the worlds most powerful super computer. i never said where though. truth is only the high command know. i mean would america openly broad cast the worlds most powerful super computer? and keep it in such a low security area as stanford university? but if i had to guess i’d say dream land military base new mexico AKA Area 51.
March 22, 2009 at 9:12 pm #22186shadeblackParticipantI am very sorry for enabling the hijacking of your thread. I hope I haven't deterred you away from this site due to my mistake. I will talk to the admin about getting a disscussion section.
Once again, I do apologise, and although i do support folding at home, I can only keep my ps3 on when im playing games. after which i have turn it off completely.
you don't understand anything in partical physics. I submit to you, that before you raid other people's threads with rediculous and absurd theories that make no sense at all, you at least get your facts right. My last comment to you:
No. There is only one type of electron.
March 22, 2009 at 9:55 pm #22191XeroTheGreatMemberKiller369, You need to get a life.
I don't see any reason to insult F@H, and it's ran by stanford university, not the government. If you have such a big problem, then just leave F@H. We have no way beaten cancer (Jade Goody just died today because of it), and there are a hell load of diseases we haven't found cures for (Ask for examples, and i'd be here all damm day). People should be encouraged to use F@H when not using their PS3, because I don't see it doing any damage. I use it most nights, and have had no problems.
Need me to add to this? Just ask, because I'm just getting started.
Criticising a charity: Quite sad. No, worse still: Very sad.

omg, calm down dude, he aint doin anything wrong, its just his opinion of the F@H
March 22, 2009 at 11:35 pm #22193KILLER369Memberok ok. this is gettin way to out of hand.
this will be my last post on the subject.
we have cured cancer. we have the abbility to clone new cells, then replace the cancerous ones with the new ones. and i didn’t state for a moment that F@H was created by the government, however they have their say in it of course. but your unconditioned mind couldn’t understand the conversation at hand, and i can’t blame you for that.
shade:
it seems that you wish to be top dog in this forum, but all i would like for you to do is move past the text books, look beyond the possibilities. if a man tries hard enough he can change the fabric of the stars. if a man tried hard enough he could rid the universe of hate plague famine and dispare.
but a man can also cause these things, a man can bring corruption upon a civilisation that knows not the word, a man can become a destroyer of life and bringer of death.
we have the abbility to change the impossible into the possible.
it took me a long time to understand how these things could happen but i realised the answer is the most obvious one. we must work together.
so i ask you as a bringer of life, will you agree with me? just go against what logic tells you, go with your imaginations and change the impossible to possible.
or are you a bringer of death and resolve your differences through violence, and plague people with corruption and evil. and pay ignorance to those who go against your logic.
take these words and remember them. only through equality shall life prevail.
March 23, 2009 at 12:54 am #22195kingawolMemberyou know what guys : for people talking like experts about electrons (hey i was shit in physics) , i just want to point out you're mostly incapable of spelling PARTICLE…

no… I just enjoy a heated debate, like i said at the beginning of it all. just because i dissagree with you at every point of your conversation doesn't mean im trying to own the forum. I can't help it if I enjoy coming here, and you shouldn't be so offended when people argue.

parnakas.. you don't HAVE to leave your PS3 on all the time. However you have to leave it going for 4-8hr 'stints' so that the work unit can be fully processed and sent back.. making sure Stanford gets their science.. and you get your points! haha .. now i do appreciate your very green approach .. thats why i included power usage figures above in my main post. If you only did 1 work unit a week, you'd still be helping.. although it'd be great if 4 a week could be done (roughly 1,000 points .. this equals what a 24/7 PS3 can do in a day (1,000 PPD (points per day))) .. Take advantage of the auto-shutdown after current work unit feature.. and you'll maximise your contribution! 😉
Power usage: In my experiences.. a lot of things like modern TVs etc don't actually drain too much from the socket whilst in standby (there is still a fair few products which do) and between the two TVs our family has and a couple of other devices.. total power usage works out to be less than $5/month.. and it gives me the convenience of turning my TV on with a remote control. Lazy? maybe.. but the power usage is negligible.
If you would rather not fold with your PS3, or would rather just not run it too much.. the PC versions make a bit more sense.. as you can do other stuff whilst folding is goin on in the background (it adjusts its CPU usage to only take up the 'left-overs). email me – [email protected] if you want further info on this
I'm sure your charity and contributions are very much appreciated! Cheers
