depends where you live. japan already has a 1gbps internet connection.
bloody hell
when do Europe get that
European ISP's are playing the field and restricting out internet connections so that they can make more and more money. haven't you realised that they increase the *mbps speeds every couple of years to double that of it's previous speed? they simply 'cap' your speed for their service and paid to do it.
another huge problem is that european phone lines (which is what broadband uses) are often not capable enough of transmitting the high speed internet connection… so even if your ISP is giving you 8mbps for your service, you might only get 2.2mbps, or 4.4mbps. it greatly depends on your phone line.
However, I'm not sure about the rest of Europe, but in the UK, a company called Virgin Media is starting to provide local Optical Internet connections, which can easily produce speeds of up to 100mbps. Optical connections can also be used for 1gbps speeds, but I guarantee it won't happen in Europe for quite some time yet.
Whereas Japan is more concerned with providing excellent quality internet connections, Europe is more westernly civilised, and so, the corperates want as much money as they can get.

As far as LBP is concerned I'm not too bothered about it being delayed – it just means waiting another week or so, and there are plenty of games out recently to keep my satisfied until then.

Incidentally, I have a friend who works at SKY, and he says that they are pressuring BT to upgrade the lines, as that is who their internet goes through. I use sky for my broadband, and it is decent now, but could be better.
October 29, 2008 at 2:19 pm #19194shadeblackParticipantyeah that's what I was saying about it depending greatly on the phone line. I think BT are actually planning to rewire the whole country, but it will take a long time, and will cost them millions.

I think sky may help them out with it – it must be killing them that virgin media are rolling out fibre optic!!
