Been meaning to make this thread for awhile now…
So how musically talented are we all then? this thread is for anything related from guitars to the triangle, feel free to show some pics of your set up, and maybe a vid of your playing skills =P
So allow me to begin then, First instrument i played, and got bored of was the recorder, then learnt a few basic tihngs on the keyboard/piano. However back in summer 2009, I picked up my first guitar, a fender signed stratocaster (it clearly came from a squier factory, but still was and is a decent beginner guitar) I continued to play that thing for ages, first song to learn was `house of the rising sun` for struming, and chord progrression of the most used key in rock songs, then learnt hotel california for some barre chord, before going onto my favourite song to play on giutar (and indeed one of my favourite songs) stairway to heaven, was pretty hard, and took a long while, but i can play it great now. Since the Strat, i’ve owned 3 other guitars, 2 les pauls and an SG. Selling all of them now, except my current les paul (the other les paul was sold to xerothegreat, from this website ;P)
The guitar i’m playing now is a custom copy of a custom (if that makes sense =P), it’s a UK made guitar, that’s been designed to copy the original black beauty, les paul custom of Gibson, has great action, really fast, only difference is the neck size, 50’s, 60’s, gibson has a smaller neck for the faster action, i preffered the larger neck, suited me more (can’t remember which number is for which) . Shall get a picture of my complete set up when i get the time, and find the camera. Yet to purchase an amp ready for stage use, only have a 10w and 20w amps, and one SFX pedal, thats got some great variety in it. Yet i’ve yet to consider joining a band as of yet, i can play pretty well now, but i just haven’t got the time as of yet.
Recently been looking around to buy a Gibson, aiming for a studio worn brown one. although the wine red ones look pretty damn sexy as well. Oh, and as a side note, i’m teaching myself how to play harmonica (badly) and sing (even more badly)
Will upload a few pics, and maybe the odd vid, along with more in depth stats on my guitar, when i get the time, and depending on how much response this thread gets
Kog,
Liam
EDIT: weird looking paragraphs= tried getting gaps to make the chunk of reading more friendlier on the eye, clearly didn't work to plan.

I had a go at the fiddle for a while but gave that up as well. I play a lot of piano, I am currently trying to learn The Simpson's Theme on it but it's bloody hard. I have a Yamaha keyboard which is fairly useless but I have a lovely Upright piano although I tink it might have piano arthritis?!
I play guitar aswel, I started on a crap 30 euro acoustic from Argos, progressed from that on to my first electric, a second-hand Elevation (It's a copy of a Fender Strat) It's black and white and came with a tiny 10Watt amp. After that I got a Yamaha F310 acoustic guitar which I love and it sounds brilliant, then last May I invested in a Black/gold Epiphone Les Paul Custom Limited 50th Anniversary Edition. I bought it off my cousin in Tennesse. I am still stuck with the 10Watt amp though. It's a brilliant guitar though, one of the Korean Epiphones.
So that's pretty much my musical life. I've a brilliant memory for music but I struggle with sight-reading and my 'ear' isn't great either.

I have a Gibson Les Paul BFG Custom, I love it because its so unique. It has a completely different feel than any other les paul/guitar out there. I love it, would never sell it. Got a P90 in the neck, and a Burstbucker 3 Pro in the bridge = absolute sexy tone. The Burstbucker has got a great mid-range and a ton of bite, making it great for modern songs, and classic riffs. The P90 is very thick and creamy, nice blues tone and great for soloing.
Here are some pics of me with it at a couple of gigs:

Now the amp you see there is not my primary amp. I run that guitar through a Vox AC30. Best amp ever created, hands down. It's a classic. Used since pretty much the beginning of rock! Marshalls are nice, but Vox just has got a grittier overdrive. My amp can do anything from a sparkly clean to a British Classic Overdrive, to the most modern sounding overdrive. Seriously recommend any guitarist pick up an AC30.
I have got a few effect pedals:
Vox Wah pedal – very simple wah wah, it gets the job done.
Electro Harmonix Octave Multiplexer – Plays your original note, with an octave down of that same note. Almost like playing in perfect harmony with a bass player. Great for beefing up some weak riffs.
MXR Phase 90 – Just a simple Phase pedal, pretty popular.
Electro Harmonix Memory Boy – Great delay unit. Best I have ever played with for only $100. Sounds better than some of the $300 models! Its analog, and it can do some other modulation crap as well as crazy oscillations if you screw around with the settings.
Look up some YouTube vids of those pedals if your interested to see how they look/sound.
I have some other pedals too that I have collected over the years, but those 4 are always in my setup. I don't own any overdrive/distortion pedals, because the overdrive on my amp is perfect for me.
I can also play some drums, and very very basic piano. But I'm not too into those, haha. I just use my brothers drumset when I'm really bored.
EDIT: Hope the pics work..

I am a drummer, well, a semi-retired drummer (love to play, want to play, unable to play) =[
Anyway my set is dope. Without going into too much detail.. I have a custom export series pearl drumset. Single bass with Iorn Cobra power double bass pedal, 4 toms, and a 14″ snare. Then I have my 10' steel picallo snare, and my BEAUTY OC Drums custom made snare (only one like it)

I also have a 3 piece roto tom setup and a cowbell, cause WE NEED MORE COWBELL
Cymbals are a pain because they break, play with Zildjian and the sound it awesome while it lasts. I usually have around 8 cymbals on my set (2 crash, 2 splash, hi-hat, zil-bel, china and ride)
GOD I miss playing. Here is a link to a small band I had in high school (2 person band… dope) It's the only song we recorded, it was also our slowest song… Enjoy
February 8, 2011 at 11:59 am #68979monkeymoobsMemberI've been playing bass guitar for just over a year now but I still can't learn by ear very well and i'm still working on popping better cos I kinda suck at that but I have taught myself the whole time never had a lesson
February 8, 2011 at 4:25 pm #68980Antony19MemberThe first instrument was piano. Got bored and it hasnt that good right now i am learning guitar and i am doing pretty well so i will probably keep it going
February 8, 2011 at 7:48 pm #68985XeroTheGreatMemberThe first instrument i (had to) play was a recorder, in primary school. The first instrument i actually wanted to play was the guitar, which i started doing so at the start of last year. The first guitar i got was a Squier stratocaster, which was decent enough. Now i'm playing 'someone's' Les Paul copy, which is pretty nice.
June 24, 2011 at 7:41 pm #70029kingofgames73MemberSorry for my lack of promised contribution to the thread, i've been quite busy as of recent with exams and what not, alas though,
I have purchased a new amp, a pretty nifty Vox AC amp (parn was right, great amp!). And i now have a new guitar, i was considering getting a Gibson Studio or Standard, but i played one in store, and didnt rate it anywhere near my current guitar, also the custom was way to overpriced for the tiny improvement it was, so i went and got this bad boy instead after having tested it in store, and loving it….will be picking it up next friday
June 25, 2011 at 1:55 am #70035monkeymoobsMemberI got an acoustic guitar 2 months ago and I love it wish I got one earlier written a couple of songs (no lyrics) but might add some if I can get myself over the whole hating everything I come up with
