Anyone picked this up?
I am still undecided about it. It looks almost exactly like the BC series. Not that that's a bad thing, just that I don't know if I want to go through it again.
Also, I don't have much money right now, like most people today. And what with my girlfriends birthday, Christmas and a trip away coming up I can't afford many games for myself. Which is why I'll have to only get the games I reeeeally want. So, Black ops…and…I can't think of anything else right now, because everything is bloody delayed!
Anyway, I thought we needed a thread for this game, it looks like it deserves one.
IGN's review was terrible but they suck. And that's the only one I read.
October 16, 2010 at 3:24 pm #67361RKF95MemberAll the ppl I know that have played it seem 2 like it, but most of them r on Xbox so idk if there is a diffrence bettween the versions or not, but I also heard that the campaign is like 4 hours long and thats kinda a turn off
October 16, 2010 at 4:52 pm #67363parnakasMemberI dont have the game, but I have heard it is meh.
From what I have been told:
- dull and short single-player
- online is solid
- small maps when compared to BF:BC
- decent game for FPS fans
- doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from other FPS games
- not as arcade style as MW2
Thats about it. I myself am not that big of a fan of these reality-war-based FPS games, so I don't think I will be picking this up.
Ninja – if your looking for a game to get, try out Star Wars FU2. I loved the demo, I think its a great game, coming out later this year.
( btw, i just realized there was a list option, so i decided to use it! )
October 16, 2010 at 10:34 pm #67371GHOST305MemberWell i guess I'll be the one to let you how its actually is since I have it. As it stands, I feel the game is pretty realistic. Plays well, but the campaign is kinda short. Online is a combination of COD and BF:BC. The controls are similar to call of duty and the game incorporates a sort of “kill streak” type reward system. Objects in the maps can be destroyed just like BF:BC. Personally I like playing the campaign as well as the online.
October 17, 2010 at 3:15 pm #67382KnoxieMemberMedal of Honor is better than i'd thought it would be anyways. Havent been on it too much but the first few levels are a good variety e.g on foot, in a truck, calling in backup etc which makes it more enjoyable than just running around killing people every time. Im hoping theres a sniper mission to come too. It may be a bit easy but ive still found it enjoyable up to now.
I had a go of the multiplayer too and i have to say im suprised how much i liked it (maybe not as much as COD but more than BF). It is pretty much similar in weapon customisation, unlockables, killstreaks, leaderboards etc to COD which is good and i think the maps are great. Snipers arent the best tho and it gets boring keep respawning back to your base again :/.
Up to now i'd give it an 8/10 and to me it looks like its worth a buy.
October 17, 2010 at 7:22 pm #67391GHOST305Member@ Noxie: There are a couple of sniper missions later in the campaign. I loved them! They pretty much created what I've always wanted to do in real life. Without people involved obviously.

Save your money and buy a game that isn't filled with lag. If you have Battlefield Bad Company 2 you have Medal of Honour.
October 25, 2010 at 1:28 am #67552I773D33MABL3MemberWell I've just finished battering my way through the single player and I've spent a good bit of time on the MP as well.
As far as the SP goes; I'm pretty disappointed. I don't mind too much that it was short (FPS war sims seem to all be going that way) but it was just far too ordinary and forgettable. It did nothing to distinguish itself from the other contenders for the FPS crown (COD and BF). It took aspects from both but didn't go far enough to do anything as well and, to me, came across as a watered down hybrid of the two.
Maybe I missed something important but if you asked me now what the story was, I don't think I could tell you. The game just meandered through a string of sequences that I took part in but never seemed to affect anything beyond the immediate. The levels were just linear run-throughs that seemed content to throw crappy AI at me. And while I do enjoy the odd scripted sequence I get pissed off when I'm moving too fast for the game and it automatically kills me with a bullet from no-where.
And all through the game the length of time it took on-screen prompts to appear bugged the Hell out of me. Far too often I found myself staring at an enemy camp wondering if I was meant to kill them all or were my team waiting for support. If the devs were going to insist on controlling how I play the game then they could have at least been clear about it.
The situation wasn't helped by a cast that did an unmatched job of blending into the background and being utterly indistinguishable. This helps when you're hiding from the enemy, not so much when you're an important part of an already shaky narrative. This is a nail that both COD and BF have managed to hit on the head perfectly. Irrespective of which camp you belong to you have to admit that both games are home to identifiable and enjoyable casts. If any of the MOH crew turn up in a sequel I wouldn't bet on myself noticing.
The last two or three levels are an exception to this. The game starts to come together and you're squad mates take on a bit of depth. It's too little, too late though and only high-lights how much of a missed opportunity the rest of the game is.
In an FPS one of the most important things to get right is the guns. The MOH SP misses this target as well. I never felt like I was shooting anything. The sounds are flat and lifeless and the gun feels weightless. The bullets don't seem to want to be there and don't give a shit whether they kill someone or not. In the end, neither did I.
And it's that miserable attempt at weaponry that separates the SP from the MP. I have the PS3 I played this on hooked up to 5.1 surround and it felt like my house was sitting in a warzone. Bullets whipped by my head, explosions chased my cat into the next room and a nice solid gun dealt death to my enemies. Dice did the MP and their signature is all over it. They know how to make me feel like the guys on the other team are actually capable of killing me.
Unfortunately, that remains as the best thing about the MP. Everything else just feels like what Dice threw together in the spare time they had when they weren't making BC2. Four small maps, three classes and barely a handful of weapons: short-changed. When held next to MW2 and BC2 it really doesn't stack up. And the end result is an enjoyable, fast paced shooter that gets old very quickly. The different game modes and in-game novelties like migrating spawn points just don't do enough to hold interest. No doubt there will be map packs but I don't like paying for what I should have got in the first place.
(Started that as a quick opinion, sorry it turned into a book!!)

November 1, 2010 at 9:20 pm #67762tommyflopMemberI Gotta agree with Emdeepee. i quite enjoyed the campaign, although it was short, apart from the countless times i had to reload the last checkpoint cos it didn't seem to move on when i'd done everything. This happened about 5 times. ok not countless but 5 too many, i've been thru cods 4, 5 and 6 about 4 times each and this never happened. Enjoyed the mp at first but it got old rapidly, getting fed up of spawning and dying before i'm able to move. too few maps, not enough guns, EVERY MAP is in f##ing afghanistan ffs. I know the game is set there but come on, at least vary them a bit. mountains, markets, hills, villages. Original, NOT. I aint tried Frontline yet, i hope they've done a good job of that. Put it this way I was hoping to plug the gap till Black Ops comes out and all i can say is ROLL ON 09/11/10!!!!

Where did you see emdeepee posting here? The checkpoint is cuz of your shitty system, its miles better than mw2, and that 9/11 thing deserves a ***NO PROFANE LANGUAGE PLEASE*** you.
November 2, 2010 at 2:17 am #67765scottish_wonderboyMember@ gr8.
9/11 is when black ops is out in the uk u stupid idiot he aint talking about ***NO PROFANE LANGUAGE PLEASE*** all else dumbassNovember 2, 2010 at 3:55 am #67768NinjacatMemberGuys chill, it's an easy mistake to make. The date is set out differently in America to here in the UK.
We have: Day/Month/Year
They have: Month/Day/Year (I think)
Don't know why theirs is different.
So, yeah. Mistake was made.
I thought MoH was looking good. But, it came out and everyone is saying it's really bad! Looks like I'll give it a miss then.
November 2, 2010 at 10:03 am #67769tommyflopMemberSorry I meant I773 not mdp. My mistake. That’s the only apology i’ll make tho. The date is referring to black ops release not 9/11 you moron. Unfortunate coincidence. I’m intelligent enough to know that uk dates and us dates are in different orders and wouldn’t jump down someone’s throat without using my brain first. So you can have your f#*k you back. Pr1ck
November 2, 2010 at 8:40 pm #67776KnoxieMemberi'll have to agree with tommyflop here. after playing it a bit more, i enjoyed the SP (especially the last few levels where it felt like there was an actual objective) but the MP has got boring quicker than i thought it would have. definetly not as addictive as COD is and yeh ive got a feeling BO will be much better, cant wait!
