Okay, let's talk media players.
no silly insults, you can discredit something, but only with good reason.
I know a few people like the ipod here,
I myself have a zune at the moment, and have been looking for a replacement, which isn't an ipod.
On the software side, theres WMP11, itunes and other programs, so let's have it.
I only recently found out about the Sony Walkman X, which looks like it might be perfect for me:

among the not so obvious features I really like is the folder view, and the ability to sync it to ANY media player software including both itunes and wmp11. Why is that so important to me? because I make a habit of arranging EVERYTHING by folders, and while disliking itunes, I prefer wmp11.
being a sony related website, I have to ask… who else likes/dislikes this?

I think that sony you are talking about is pretty cool. Seems to have a lot of features. Bit pricey in my opinion.Personally, i still have my portable casette player.. and it is the best thing ever. Listening to old Zep tapes is so awesome. And there is no software required!!
And i look really cool walking around with it.I still think iPods are the best MP3 players though..

hmm i don't know about pricey seeing as how it's roughly the same price as an ipod classic. :S
however, the hard drive isn't as big as it should be! I would personally want AT LEAST 32gb (which the sony walkman X has for a higher price at £229). the ipod classic has the upper hand there with it's 120gb hard drive.
the ipod touch however, is a maximum of 32gb for £265.
(by the way, things in canada and america are generally a lot cheaper).
now the samsung
is ver nice for the price… but notice it's not wifi, but rather bluetooth (which I've always hated), and im guessing it supports most media players since it would be stupid of them to make their own.
the sony's OLED screen seems very nice indeed as well.
July 10, 2009 at 7:15 am #30030BdamacMemberthey bout look cool and it is something different from an ipod if that what you like then thats what you like don't follow the trends out there with all the ipod get something unique i have and iphone and ipod touch as well it good to see something new for sony i say pick the first one i like that one the best
July 10, 2009 at 10:13 am #30019PS3 TrophiesKeymasterIriver has some really nice models, I've always liked theirs over any other media players.
July 10, 2009 at 2:57 pm #30037BigWoopMagazineMemberThis may be a dumb question, but doesn't the psp Go! play mp3's? That might be the way to go, games, movies, and music all in one… and you can get a flash drive for it too if you need more memory. I think the only real drawback is the price and that it might be a little bigger than an iPod…

oh yeah i almost forgot about the irivers. I actually have an old 20gb iriver pmc. it was a rather large and bulky thing. But I still liked it at the time. it's size eventually led me to start looking for something else. that's when i obtained the zune. back then, i actually thought the zune would support wmp11. how wrong i was. microsoft really messed that one up.
the irivers are barely available over here in the uk. so I think i'll stick to something that's a bit more widely available.

yeah the psp go! will indeed be able to play media. but it seems to have a maximum of 16gb internal and then a 4gb m2 cards. whether or not it will take any higher is not stated on the playstation website: http://www.us.playstation.com/psp/systems/pspgo.html
although intergrating everything (music, vids, games etc) into something like would be very nice, I don't see it being a very practical media player for a couple reasons:
1) if the media sorting abilities are the same as the ps3, then it would certainly not suit my needs. the ps3 is very lazy when it comes to sorting, filtering etc.
2) you'd have to flip the screen up in order to change tracks/albums. I imagine this would end up driving someone insane.
However, It's a nice idea to have this when on a long trip to somewhere and you expect you'll have nothing to do at somepoint.

I find that the iPod Classic is overpriced.. But you do get 120gb which is MASSIVE!!!
My iPod Touch has 16 GB.. and i have never even come close to filling it up. the apps and games take up like 2MB each.. and yes, i have found that things in Canada and America are a lot cheaper.
The Samsung. Meh, i dont mind bluetooth. i think its alright. But Wifi is a lot better. Yes, the Samusng supports most media players, except iTunes (which i know you dont like).
I have a Sony Cellphone, and i hate it, but the music quality is decent. i find that Sony's Mp3 players are not the best on the market. They tend to have small hard drives for the price, and the music quality is never that great.
32GB is very big for JUST music and videos. The iPod Classics 120GB pretty much guarantees you that you will never fill it up.
July 10, 2009 at 7:25 pm #30051XeroTheGreatMemberI've got the 120GB iPod, and I love it. I think it's worth every penny, although it's physical size is a bit on the large size hehe. 120GB is a bit overkill i suppose, since i've only managed to fill up around 18GB so far.
July 10, 2009 at 7:31 pm #30053BigWoopMagazineMembersome good points shade, I looked it up it says you can get up to a 16 gig flash drive (I didn't know those existed), essentially doubling that space… but with games on it, and videos, it would probably be nice to have more room to include music as well…
xero – yeah, that is overkill… hah, if you had 120gigs filled, it would take FOREVER to listen to all that music. set for life!
July 10, 2009 at 7:35 pm #30056kingofgames73MemberI have a watch with a built in MP4 player and 2gb memory, ok the memory is small, screen is rather small, the buil;t in speakers aren’t the loudest but it does what i want it to do ([play Cat stevens, led zeppelin and black sabbath) so i’m happy with it 🙂 also it looks kinda cool and i think its original, everyone has an ipod at school but im the only one with an MP4 watch!

July 10, 2009 at 9:52 pm #30083XeroTheGreatMemberIn terms of media player software, I currently use Itunes for my music. I started off using Winamp, but I mainly used that because of it's internet radio functions. As my media library grew larger, I went to WMP11. I used that until I got my iPod, which made me change to iTunes. I can quite happily say that I prefer iTunes the most.

same, i think iTunes is the best software. I used to use Windows Media Player, and it was so un-organized now compared to iTunes.
