i agree with thickbrow completely. i think this petition is just dumb.
August 10, 2009 at 6:09 am #36446TomTom12992MemberI agree with thickbrow because Activision has the right to charge whatever they want now if people buy it for that price than Activision’s reason would be well supported by the amount of money they racked in
August 10, 2009 at 6:12 am #36447CoryAllenMemberexactly!
August 10, 2009 at 2:46 pm #36471NinjaMidgetMemberI dont know how much MW2 has increased in the states but over in the UK, the rrp has increased by £15! Thats quite a bit!
It's also the fact that Activision is being incredibly greedy. Of course it's within their rights to raise the prices of computer games, but with a game that they expect to sell over 10 million copies, I think thats a little extreme!
And if we look at it from parents views for Christmas. Some kids get a few games for Christmas but I'm sure parents will be a tad reluctant to spend more money on top of MW2, so game sales of other IP's wil go down (this would explain the mass exodus of games to 2010 though!)
Another look at this is pure hypocrisy on Activisions part. They said to sony to lower the price of the PS3, but some of their collectors editions already cost about the same price as a Wii or Eggbox or bout half the price of a PS3. So it's very hypocritical of them to start raising the prices of their games so they can milk the public for all their worth!
The thing is, I cant wait for MW2, Infinity Ward are a great company and have made a steller game, and it sucks that quite a few people are going to pirate the game and get it used to spite Activision. Even though in all likelyhood the petition wont work, hopefully it will give Activision an eye opener as to what their consumers are thinking instead of their shoddy attempts at market research!
Also, I dont like the way they handled the Brutal Legend case. The dropped the project, then told the developers that they owed them development time. Thats like firing somebody, then saying to them you want some of the money you earned from them back!
Apologies for the essay though!
August 10, 2009 at 3:57 pm #36473BigWoopMagazineMemberYea, I'm not sure where this petition is coming from either. I just checked the gamestop website where I have my reserve and it says $59.99 USD, which is what every other ps3 full retail game has been releasing at since the dawn of ps3. Which is what you'll pay for batman, assassin's creed 2, uncharted 2, bioshock 2, MAG, and pretty much any other game you're looking forward to. Can't afford it? Rent it. Deal with it.
If you do want a cheaper game though, check out Mini Ninjas, it looks like it might be pretty fun, and for some reason is priced at $49.99 USD. Yay,,, just like back when I owned a ps2.
August 10, 2009 at 4:28 pm #36478pool96MemberI think enough hating has been done on Activision! We'll all know that they've been greedy raising prices blah blah blah! But it's taking over every forum on the internet!

What are you complaining about? Price increases? Is this in europe? because i checked here and prices of games have increased from 59.99 to 69.99 here Canada over the last month. As far as I know the price for CODMW2 will be 69.99 CAD (www.amazon.ca) and 59.99 USD (www.amazon.com)
Are you complaing about the prestige edition? Do you know it comes with freakin night vision goggles? If you don't like it, buy the regular one. GEESH!
If you can not afford something. DON'T BUY IT.
A company has the right to raise the price as high as they want. It is good business to find the right price point so that you can maximize profits. The sales of their games are directly dependant on the number of systems that Sony sells. They want more systems out there so they have the potential to sell more games. Everyone has complained about the pricing of the PS3. Why spend time developing a game for a system that a small percentage of people own?
These guys have put together a collecters edition for those who want something a little more unique.
CODMW was a great game. Why shouldn't they try to make more money off the next game?
If you want to petition about something why don't you complain to the folks that made GI Joe the game and expect 69.99 for it!
at last someone i agree with, i dont know what yous are all complaining about, its not more expensive anyways in most places… and if u dont have the money, why buy it? go buy something thats worse that u can afford and seeing this is going 2 be amazing anyways, why shouldnt they raise the price?
oh yeah, i think this will sell the most copies aswell btw and most ppl i know (including from this site) will be playing it no matter the price
August 10, 2009 at 4:46 pm #36487NinjaMidgetMemberFund corporate greed if you want, i'm just pointing out the facts of a company that should try to stay on the good side of it's consumers instead of pissing half of us off. Not a lot of people are happy about having to spend £15 extra on a game that should be the same price as all others. It may be a call of duty game but rockstar didn't raise the price of GTA, EA didn't raise the price of any of its sports games Capcom didn't raise the price of Resi 5.
We are in a recession here guys, people dont have the money they did a few years ago to spend on games anymore. Activision need to learn this.
August 10, 2009 at 5:42 pm #36492emdeepeeMemberCorrect me if I'm wrong but isn't £55 the rrp for this??? I only ask because most companies still have this listed between £40-£45 which is what you'd pay for most other new releases anyway.
August 10, 2009 at 5:57 pm #36493NinjaMidgetMemberyeah most retailers are still retailing it at £45, which is pretty ok!
What I heard to begin with was that Activision was trying to get retailers to raise their price to around £55. Bob Kotick even said he would raise this price again!
August 10, 2009 at 7:58 pm #36505MiiiitchMemberSo first everyone hates it now it's okay lol, personally i don't like thickbrow but agree with what he said.
