I'm only hazarding a guess at what the Doc means but I'd say he's referring to the fact that it's become quite popular to drag one plot across several movies (Twilight) rather than have distinct story-arcs (Die Hard).
That's a wild guess though, I could be completely off track.
Yeah… That's what I mean…
Although, was Twilight the best example you could think of?—
Nate fury was average at best…
I just went for the first crappy series that came to mind. In hindsight, I probably should have picked something more dignified

Just back from the Dark Knight Rises and while it was an awesome movie I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed. Realistically it was never going to live up to the hype. The previous film was not only 10/10 but was further bolstered by the carreer defining performance of Heath Ledger and the poignant undercurrent of his death.
That's a tough act to follow. But still TDKR gives it a good go. The acting is top notch (Micheal Caine stealing every scene he was in) and the CG is as flawless as it gets. If I had to complain about anything it would be the pacing of the film. It feels a little rushed and over-edited in places. Hopefully that'll be fleshed out in a director's cut.
July 26, 2012 at 7:38 am #72099emdeepeeMemberThink I'd have to agree with 1773 about TDKR. It was always gonna be a tough job folllowing up TDK but right from the start I felt as if they were playing catch up (the start of this not being as good as the bank job in TDK for example).
By most other standards this would probably be classed as a very good film, but it kinda felt like an anti-climax in a way, so whilst I liked it I didn't love it.
July 26, 2012 at 8:11 am #72067gr8jrfanMemberI saw TDKR Sunday and while I don't agree with 1773, I don't disagree if that makes sense. I don't want to compare them really. I thought all 3 were fantastic and by far, the best superhero movies to date. I thought TDKR was a blast and I think what probably made me “love” it was that I thought the fight scenes at the end in the snow were just.. breathtaking. Some people say that Joker was better I think Bane did a pretty good job, no? Not outdone, but certainly pretty close and the line “When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die” is just badassery in it's purest form. Going to see it again tomorrow with a different friend
July 27, 2012 at 12:27 am #72075scotty243MemberJust came back from TDKR and I definitely have to say, it was pretty damn good. But I also do have to agree with Emdeepee on the anti-climax part because I felt the final battle went way too short. It was exciting and I won't lie, I was literally on the edge of my seat during parts of the film. It's also great seeing Knightfall making an appearance in the film (I know it's a comic but you know what I'm talking about ). Definitely liked seeing the score for the film in motion and building the tension unlike TDK although pretty tense and realistic, I thought the score should've been brought out at some good times during the film.
But saying all of that, is it a better film than TDK? I don't really know but while not perfect, it was pretty damn good IMO. Wish the final battle was much more bigger and epic than it was… And to add, The Pitt was definitely my favorite scene of the film. RISE.
John Blake is badass.
August 6, 2012 at 8:12 am #72139scotty243MemberSaw Detention, Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake), and [REC] 2 which I all enjoyed thoroughly but I have to say Detention was probably the best of the bunch. Saying that, I can't recommend Detention to anyone unless I know what they like as this is a great film but it's not for everyone, if that makes sense? [REC] 2 was scary as shit though…
August 6, 2012 at 10:49 am #72140gr8jrfanMemberAlmost my entire day was devoted to Batman. First thing I did was drive to the closest IMAX theater and I saw TDKR for the third time. I HAD to see it in IMAX before I never get a chance too, after all… Definitely the best movie I've seen this year. When I got back I played Lego Batman 2 for a few hours then I took a break. Later that night I watched Under the Red Hood, which was phenomenal!! Red Hood's basically Batman but with a different ethical code, killing be an option, also wanting to become the ruler of Gotham's crime syndicates. His arsenal matches the Caped Crusaders and so does his fighting ability. He's got world class sniping skills and one-liners to boot, a totally badass villain. The action was amazing and I hope Red Hood makes an appearance in the next “Arkham” game, he's always 2 steps ahead of everyone. I'll never forget the final confrontation when all 3 characters stories collided… In short, Batman's the fcuking greatest and I'll definitely be starting DCUO soon just to serve under the Dark Knight!
August 17, 2012 at 2:11 am #72131I773D33MABL3MemberJust back from the Expendables 2.
Dodgy acting, cheesy one-liners, every cliché in the book and absolutely ridiculous action sequences.
In other words… everything a proper action hero movie should have!! Parked my brain at the door and enjoyed every minute of a movie doing exactly what it says on the tin. The cameos are brilliant, the references golden and the mayhem just outclasses the first Expendables in every way.
Get all your mates, leave the WaGs at home and cheer on the explosions!
10/10

What is this Detention movie you speak of?
August 19, 2012 at 12:41 am #72163scotty243MemberHere's a trailer for the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4PFz9gIKKM
It's almost like The Cabin In The Woods but a bit different from it. I can't really explain without spoiling it but it's good.

Like Cabin in the Woods you say? Sounds good to me. I honestly think I'm the only one who really likes Cabin in the Woods. Everyone else I know hasn't liked it, probably because I love old cheesy horror movies, and they don't.

I actually loved Cabin in the Woods up until the very ending when we learn the fate of the characters. I really wanted some of the characters to make it out but oh well, it was still a fantastic film in every way. Everyone I know (besides Finch) liked the film alot and the Unicorn scene seems to be the topic of every conversation about the film. Just don't expect a horror movie from Detention, if that makes sense? I can't really describe it but it's just great.

The sequel to I Am Legend is actually supposed to be a prequel, who knows how that'll work. I wish they had stuck closer to the book, it was way better than the movie, even though the movie is still pretty good.
