Caught a showing of Star Trek Into Darkness yesterday morning with a jam-packed crowd (was wishing there were earlier showings…). I thoroughly enjoyed the film throughout. There's only a single complaint I have however it's pretty minor due to the fact that the film executes everything so expertly that I'll let it slide, plus, it's a spoiler
As long as Abrams helms the films, I'll always purchase a ticket

Think this is his last one now he's fcuked off to the dark side!
June 3, 2013 at 12:56 am #73327scotty243MemberIron Man 3 – Dreadful. One of the first films to make me want to walk out/check the time due to how boring it was throughout. One of the best parts of the film looked like a video game, which I'm confused as to whether that should be a good or bad thing? Whatever. If there was something good about this movie, it's Robert Downey Jr. and his charisma on screen; he's just likeable throughout as well as some of the supporting cast. It's the best Iron Man, yet, but that's not saying much.
Fast & Furious 6 – Underwhelming.
Gangster Squad – Good.

June 4, 2013 at 8:04 am #73339emdeepeeMemberResident Evil: Retribution
Paul Anderson continues his trend of making each film worse than the previous one. The first 20 minutes just felt like a collection of surreal cutscenes.
Expendables 2
Had hoped this would be better than the first since Stallane wasn't directing and Simon West was (love Con Air and Generals Daughter) however I really was disappointed with this.
Jack Reacher
Wasn't too bad and was nice to see a film where the 'good guy' has the 'bad guys' on the back foot for most of the film.
Total Recall
This film really surprised me because despite the critical drubbing it has had I enjoyed it. Sure it was maybe 10-15 minutes too long but other than that I would say well done. I liked the nods to the Schwarzenegger version too.
Star Trek Into Darkness
Not often I get to the cinema but made the effort for this one and it didn't disappoint.

Ladies, children, sheep… Some people call him a terrorist. I consider him a teacher. Lesson number one: Scotty loves to grump

What? Lol. Do you do these on purpose?

Nope, I actually enjoyed Gangster Squad more so than I ever did with any of the Iron Man films. Gangster Squad is a flawed movie, but I liked it all the way however it's not memorable or anything. I'll probably forget it in a few weeks time though.
Saw Thor earlier in the week in one of my classes, and to my surprise, I really liked the movie. It's not spectacular, but I had fun with the film since I thought it was charming at times. I'm not pumped for Thor 2, but I wouldn't mind paying full price for it if it's like its predecessor.
June 9, 2013 at 9:35 am #73364Frederick_PlaystationMemberYou enjoyed Thor but not Iron Man 1?
Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

You have opinions, Scotty has opinions. Scotty's are usually different to yours. Time to get over it.
June 10, 2013 at 1:57 am #73367scotty243MemberCaught an early showing of The Purge Saturday morning and enjoyed my time in the theater. While yes, it's undeniably a flawed film, I liked it throughout. There wasn't a single moment where I was bored, but then again, there wasn't a moment when I wasn't questioning some of the characters' stupidity being displayed on screen. I had much fun with this, I truly did, and would gladly pay again to see it.
If there's a highlight about this movie though, it's Ethan Hawke's character's daughter. Boy, I'd like to purge all over that
Anywho, saw Safety Not Guarenteed earlier today and wow, did I enjoy every second of that as well. It's such a charming movie and was actually quite funny throughout. It reminded me of (500) Days of Summer at times with it's two main leads. One of the better films of '12, I'd say

I respect opinions. But then there are those overly stupid opinions that don't make any sense.
June 10, 2013 at 3:59 am #73375gr8jrfanMemberI saw Hangover 3 and Fast Six on Friday with a few friends. Hangover blew cock but Fast Six had it's moments. Both movies were extremely stupid and not in a good way. Hangover was uncomfortably bad…
June 23, 2013 at 4:45 am #73453gr8jrfanMemberI saw Man of Steel and This is the End recently. This is the End was even funnier than I thought it'd be. It's rare to see a comedy these days that's actually got a bit of effort and talent put into it… (See Hangover Part 3 ) And for Man of Steel, I really don't see why the critics hated it that much. Every criticism is just nitpicks really. It has the BEST action scenes in ANY superhero movie, it's fast paced, the actors are all good, and I really liked the dark tone and sci-fi elements that were in the beginning of the movie. Money well spent.

Well, not every criticism is a nitpick, really. I mean, the action scenes that occur in this film are flat out mental with whole towns/cities being practically wiped off the map. Towards the end, Metropolis is obliterated to the point where you could just make an X on where the city used to be. The reason I'm even mentioning these scenes are due to the fact that at no point in the entire 143 minutes of this film, there is not even a mention of the devastating amount of loss that occured. Millions of people are crushed by buildings, beaten to death by Zod's forces, or turned to ash and unlike The Avengers, there's not even a scene to mourn the loss or even a cheesy scene with Superman looking over the distance saying something where it was his fault Metropolis was destroyed and how the deaths won't be in vain – Instead, we receive a scene where he looks at his father's grave then everything is normal with no even coping with what happened, just another day at the office, eh?
You say this film has a “dark” tone, and with a dark tone, a good majority of people expect serious consequences or a more realistic approach to what would happen instead of it's Looney Tunes universe it resides in.
Also, the final battle between Zod and “teh Man of Steel” was a goddamn video game the entire time. The CGI was incredibly noticable the entire time and even looked worse than Iron Man 3's action scenes. And if you actually paid attention to the final battle, Clark got all pissy when Zod wanted to kill some family however through the entire battle, they're smashing into buildings, blowin' shit up and whatnot which would cause thousands, if not a million more people, to perish under those conditions.
With that, the whole Krypton portion of this movie raised some eyebrows because you have this whole alien civilization which is very unique, but everyone speaks English? 'Cause yeah, I'm going to believe extraterrestrial life forms speak the same language as any regular human being would do even though they live galaxies away and have never met us before (which is stated by Jor-El when he says, they seem to be an intelligent life species while he's finding a place to send his son).
I could keep typing up more on the bullshit Man of Steel entices however I'm just not in the mood. Anywho, despite the problems this film presents and my “critical” side to me, I actually liked this movie. The smallville aciton scene was pretty dope but what was the highlight of this film, and I wished Zack Snyder would just do a whole movie based on it, was the first 20 minutes of Man of Steel where you just witness the unevitable depressing fall of Krypton, which was quite beautiful, I think.
There's one shot in particular where Jor-El (Russel Crowe) walks out of a building and witnesses Krypton under siege with buildings being destroyed, epic “dogfights” occuring, and just an over magnificent shot that is worthy of a full price purchase. I even think it's on one of the trailers for the film.
If there's something I truly loved about this film, it was the score and the cinematography which are absolutely stellar throughout. The shots compliment the score and vice-versa. I just can't get over the deliciously engrossing job Hans did on this score, but you guys will probably dismiss it
Just make a Fall of Krypton movie and let Superman ***NO PROFANE LANGUAGE PLEASE*** off, please
