oh great u all hate slipknot tbh i really like them they r 1 of my favourite bands music i cant stand is james morrison, high school muscal all that disney crap and stuff, that song when love takes over. i like slipknot, paramore, dragonforce, disturbed, within temptation, Dope and lady gaga but im not sure about that thing u said about her being a hermaphradite, if so EEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i like rappers like TI

From what I can gather screamo is a general term given to anything with extreme metal vocals. That track from Job… was death metal with some black metal vocals thrown into the mix. 

Extreme metal is a difficult listen so I can understand people dismissing it out of hand. The music is usually played at such a speed and with such intensity that it comes across as a maelstrom of noise with some guy screaming/growling over the top. You can't just throw it in the CD player and expect to hear it all straight away. Extreme metal demands that you spend some time tuning in your ear. It's like looking into a machine for he first time. You just have a mess of parts that don't mean anything but after you spend some time with it everything starts to come together and gather purpose. 

That said, understanding it doesn't mean you're going to like it. Metal like this is aimed at a very small hardcore fanbase. It was never intended to be acceptable to a large audience. Your average person doesn't like to listen to angry, hate-filled music.

Most people here seem to have an issue with the vocals; a mixture of just not liking the screaming or not being able to hear what is being said. Music is essentially a medium. More often than not for an emotion. Love (lust/desire) is the most frequent one and songs are tailored to project it; hence the easygoing clean vocals. Metal (for the most part) focuses on hate/rage and when translated into a sonic form this emotion is far more violent and vitriolic. Screaming is the ideal form of delivery. The problem with making out what is being said is easily solved by just taking out the album and listening to the tracks while reading the lyrics. You have to invest some time in a song and, ultimately, you will get more out of it. Having to read the words means you take them all in and put more thought into them than if you just threw on an album and sang along with it. And if there ever was a genre that warrented attention to lyrics, extreme metal is definitely it. The language and imagery used is far beyond the sing-along muck that passes for songwriting elsewhere.

I know in metal, you have to take the pieces out and listen to it individually to get the picture. I listen to Zeppelin, and that has some of the most complex rhythms and riffs ever, and i have to take songs apart to learn them on different instruments. I just dont see how Screaming is the ideal form of delivery. Yes it shows anger, but it could also show mental problems lol. I just dont really see a need to scream or growl a whole damn song. I mean, it makes no sense to me. Some screaming is fine, but when you just scream and growl the whole damn song, it is kinda stupid imo.  Im not telling people not to like Death Metal and all that screaming stuff, but i just dont like it. 

To everyone here, Dragonforce is fake. Give the guy an acoustic guitar, and he cant play twinkle twinkle little star. They need all these pedals and effects to produce a 7 minute synthesizer song with some anime-style singing. Crap. 

By the way, did you know that Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and The ABC's song (abcdefghij, etc.) are to the exact same rhythm? Now you know!  

I am a pure metalhead. I like just about every sub genre of metal. And when i say metal i mean proper metal not those sappy emo losers.

And for those who think its just a blur, alot of metal songs are very complex and you just need the right ear to hear everything.

Also i do not class screamo as metal. Screamo to me is when emos whine like little girls. Death growls and 'screaming' is just as much a part of heavy metal as the guitar riffs and the drum beat. Hell you try to do what some of these guys and girls (Arch Enemy lead singer, check her vocals out!) do, your voiceboxes wouldn't last seconds. I guess it is an aquired taste but i freaking love my metal, i do prefer my music to have some traditional melodic vocals aswell as blasting out with some screaming and death growls…..Raaaaaaar, Owwww, Grrrrrrrraaaaaar. As long as it has some kick arse riffs, a solid beat and bass with decent vocals, im on board.

@Parnakas, that alexisonfire song is pretty cool. I like both the singing AND the screaming 🙂

Anyway back on topic,

I HATE Rap (Retards attempting poetry anyone lol)

I mainly don't like rap because of the mentality of most of the people who listen to it and the culture, it's all about capping asses and sex and drugs, and talking quickly is all it is. No offence to any rap fans but the majority of the losers and no hopers in this world listen to it….i can't stand people who are proud of taking drugs and being violent and in gangs etc. Sure us metalheads can hold our own when it comes to fights but we don't have the same mentality as rap does.

I also can't stand doof doof music or dance/trance. Just to boring and repetitive for me.

Most other stuff i can tolerate but i prefer metal over everything else.

@Ratchet525 Oh btw Lady Gaga is a transvestite/hermaphridite (whatever you want to call it)!

I also agree with what I773D33MABL3 says.

One last thing, i think that metal songs have alot more to there music than most other genres, in terms of scope to the music and meaning to the lyrics. Not all songs in metal are focused on hate, even so the majority are meaningfull and aren't about violence, drugs and sex like rap is.

Metal is an awesome way to let off some steam! I think i am done ranting now, i apologise lol.
