So far I've been unable to connect to RDR online due to the fact that my PS3 is connected under NAT Type 3. Apparently it needs to connect with either NAT Type 1 or 2.
I've looked at various videos on youtube and a coupe of other playstation sites that offer advice on how to change this but have so far been unsuccessful in my attempts.
So my question is does anyone here have any clue as to how I can change this as its driving me mad?

August 23, 2010 at 7:07 pm #65659Doc-BMemberNAT type 3 is when you are connected to the Internet but there is a lot of interference or your getting a V. bad connection… If you've tried with no success to convert to NAT type 2 (connected with a good signal), I'd suggest getting a 'hard line' – this will/should give you NAT type 1… You should only get NAT type 2/3 with a wireless connection.
I've seen up to 50 mtr cables online, so it would just be a case of hiding it… Many things can cause a bad connection – 'Weak' Internet, neighbours with a similar router, lots of reflective surfaces 'on route' to your Ps3… And others…
Wired should get you NAT type 1 and solve all your woe's… Hope that helped a little?
August 23, 2010 at 7:14 pm #65660I773D33MABL3MemberAs far as I know it's not so much a problem with your router but with your connection speed. Your router should automatically give you the highest NAT Type available. Now if your router is old or starting to have problems then it might reduce your speed and your NAT will drop as well. Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure that NAT refers to how much/how fast information can be sent over your own network (Ping).
If you have a decent net speed then you could try opening up ports on your router or moving to a wired connection (if you use wireless now).
If the problem persists then just replace the router. The ones provided with your line are always low grade shite.
Ninja'd by Doc-B there. Sorry for any repeated info.
August 23, 2010 at 7:21 pm #65663emdeepeeMemberThanks for the feedback guys.
I'm currently on a wired connection plus the router is only 5 months old. Never had any problems connecting online before (and I still don't with the exception of RDR). I'll try a reboot and see if that works.
Having scanned for other broadband signals it appears most of my neighbours are on BT whereas I'm on o2 (who unless I'm wrong are a subsidiary of BT ).
I'm living in the middle of town now (rather than in the sticks where I was previously) and my connection speed is a hell of a lot quicker.
August 23, 2010 at 9:39 pm #65673GHOST305MemberI found that you can go into your router and open up UPnP ports. This allowed me to access and recieve a NAT 2 setting.

Can you explain that in layman terms for me? Is that easy to do?
August 23, 2010 at 10:12 pm #65676GHOST305MemberThe way I did it was I went and found the model number on my router. Then search online on “how to access (Whatever your router is…) and change its NAt type” from there you can find a forum that will help you. You could also call the company who supports your router and they can walk you through it. If you go this route…You will first need to call Sony and find out which ports to open (takes about 20 mins with them), then call your router company.
I've done the later route with two of my friends routers…(One has a Lynksis and the other a Netgear)
Hope this helps, if your still confused, feel free to PM me. Good Luck

Wish I'd known this 2 months ago
Thanks to everyone for advice. I'm guessing everyone's got the RDR online trophies now
November 6, 2010 at 10:27 pm #67887Doc-BMemberJust tried to play RDR tonight and got their new 'Nat 3' message… Awesome…
I'm guessing it's the absolute fu*king masses of scaffolding that's just been erected in my neighbourhood… That's the only thing that i could think it is as before i was type 2 all the way.
Anyone know if it could be the 'scaff'?? My connection sometimes suffers if it's pretty stormy outside to… I think… Anyone?
November 6, 2010 at 10:36 pm #67888I773D33MABL3MemberDefinitely. NAT type relies on your signal strength. Usually the problem is with the router inhibiting it (closed ports etc.) but if an external problem causes your signal to drop then it would have the same effect.
November 6, 2010 at 10:53 pm #67890Doc-BMemberGreat… I'm thinking it's gonna be up, the 'scaff', for some time
I doubt the work will be finished before winter and Christmas set in… Time to get a 50mtr Ethernet cable, lol

You could try changing the channel your wireless internet broadcasts on. just go to the router's control panel. Multiple devices on the same channel can interfere with each other.

My router doesn't have a 'control panel' as such… Unless you mean via my computer?
