Ever since Halo was released, a lot of games have been using the system of having your health regerate by avoiding damage for a while. I want to usher in a new era with calling these games LUNGSHOT games.
It makes more sense that getting hit by bullets causes you to run out of breath and eventually pass out. Jumping behind cover for a while lets you regain your breath and take more bullets. Does this sound stupid? Definitely! But it's a pretty cool name that accurately describes that feature being in a game. ANd if you have a better reason Drake from Uncharted is under a permanent REGEN spell I'd like to hear that too.
So whaddya think? Regenerating games called Lungshot games from now on? Who's with me?

February 28, 2009 at 10:55 pm #21544shadeblackParticipanti don't get it…
i mean… health regeneration is a feature in a game. not a genre of games.
so it's not a regeneration game, it's whatever the genre is. an fps game for example.
the reason for this feature in drake is because when you get shot, you CAN recover from it for quite some time. also, with no HUD, the deepening colourless frame does exactly mean he is regenerating…
if you really want a game to be THAT realistic, every character of every game would die in one hit. …No fun.

I did not write that other games started doing it because Halo did it…merely that it started getting popular around that time. Nor did I say I was naming a new genre. I just said that it was a descriptive word to name that feature in a game. ie – Killzone 2 is a “lungshot FPS”, which is easier to say than “In killzone 2, your health regenerates while not getting shot”.
Anyways…thats it. Pretty simple.
March 1, 2009 at 3:04 am #21548shadeblackParticipantclearly, I seem like an ass at the moment, but usually the term in it's simplest form is just 'regen'.
All things put aside, I like the word, and if someone were to use it in this sense, I would certainly understand it. I just think it's not gonna kick start a new trend or anything.
also, the reason why i say you're refering it to a genre is because…. you are.
“lungshot fps”. You've made it into a prefix for the genre, therfore an extension of the genre.
March 2, 2009 at 12:07 am #21554KILLER369Memberwhat he means is “Lungshot” featured “FPS. or “FPS” Featuring “Lungshot” mechanics. C’mon guys is it really that hard to apply common sense to a “misunderstood” sentence?
March 2, 2009 at 1:38 pm #21558Oz-MetalheadMemberLol reading some of these posters squabbles is hilarious, anyway…..
The word regen has been around since forever. But still mainly only in rpg's. To go with the FPS theme lungshot might fit better.
