Introduction

The Ninja Gaiden series is notoriously difficult and Sigma 2 is no exception if your looking for an easy platinum then you've come to the wrong place. You play as the dragon ninja Ryu Hayabusa your goal is to defeat the archfiend and cleanse the land. The single player campaign consists of 17 chapters and a ton of difficult yet rewarding boss battles.

For this trophy to unlock you will need to have beaten the game to unlock Chapter Challenge mode. You will need to beat all 17 chapters with a Master Ninja rating an easy way to build up karma is to perform Obliteration and Ultimate techniques.

Complete all 17 Chapters on Chapter Challenge mode on Warrior difficulty with a Master Ninja rating.

Mastered the Path of the Mentor (Silver)

Feat of a Hundred Slashes (Bronze)

Ultimate Nimpo Master (Bronze)

This can only be done in Team Missions which is unlocked after you beat Chapter 1. To perform an Ultimate Nimpo press Triangle and Circle together if your partner or AI partner uses their Nimpo at the same time you will perform an Ultimate Nimpo.

Rescued 100 Ninja's (Bronze)

This trophy can only be earned in Team missions simply revive your partner with Circle. Perform 100 revives to unlock the trophy.

Ayane Mastered (Silver)

Kill 1000 enemies with Ayane. Ayane is a playable character in Chapter 11 but you unlock her in Team Missions mode once you beat Chapter 11.

Momiji Mastered (Silver)

Kill 1000 enemies with Momiji. Momiji is a playable character in Chapter 5. She is unlocked in Team Missions once you beat Chapter 5.

Rachel Mastered (Silver)

Kill 1000 enemies with Rachel. Rachel is a playable character in Chapter 8. She is unlocked in Team Missions mode once you beat Chapter 8.

All missions successfully completed (Gold)

To unlock this trophy you need to successfully complete all 35 Team Missions

Team Missions Guide

There are a few things to be aware of when playing these missions. To start off you can play with either an AI partner or another player online. Depending on your internet connection will determine how laggy the game is. If your team mate dies you only have a short amount of time to revive them however once revived your health will be halved everytime you die if you die too much the mission will be over.

During these missions you may only use 1 weapon and 1 type of nimpo. Additionally you will not be able to recover your health with any items. The missions are separated into 5 difficulties Acolyte, Warrior, Mentor, Master Ninja and Ultimate Ninja. If your playing with an AI partner don't attempt any team mission above Warrior as the AI is terrible on harder difficulties.

I will give strategy's for beating all missions except Acolyte and Warrior as these are not difficult. Please see below:

Mentor 01

This mission takes place in a mansion fortunately you will not encounter any bosses in this mission just wave after wave of ninja's. There are several ways to beat this mission you can both play as Rachel and shoot anything that moves with the gun by pressing R2 or you can kill them like a ninja. You should only use Nimpo when you are in trouble as long as you defeat all the enemies you will complete the mission.

Mentor 02

Once again you will not face any bosses here. Except this time around you will not only face ninja's but you will also face these worm like creatures be careful on these as they can deal a lot of damage if they grab you. Use your Nimpo whenever you are in trouble and you should be fine.

Mentor 03

Unlike the previous 2 missions you will face off against a boss it is much easier to defeat this boss as Rachel as her gun will deal a lot of damage to the boss. However be careful as the boss will spawn minions at certain intervals as soon as its life reaches a certain point they will summon help.

Mentor 04

This level can be frustrating as most of the enemies here carry Rocket Launchers!! I would strongly recommend you try to co-ordinate your efforts on taking these out first but be careful as more will spawn. Once you get through all that you will need to face off against a boss in my experience the Tonfa is best on him with the combo Forward, Triangle, Triangle, L1, Triangle you need to keep hold of forward while performing this move. You should try and hit him with Forward, Triangle if you miss keep evading until he either lands or finishes his combo. If he is hit with the first move continue the combo it takes a while to master it but it is very effective.

Mentor 05

This is the hardest Mentor mission without question. Not only do you need to beat wave after wave of enemies but this time around you will face off against 2 bosses who both spawn backup when their life reaches certain levels. I would strongly recommend you use Rachel for this mission as the bosses are quite slow therefore run away from them then when you are at a safe distance start shooting then when they are close to you back off rinse and repeat until both bosses are defeated.

Master Ninja 01

This is where things get really difficult from this point on if you are grabbed you die even if you have full life! On this mission you will need to beat several waves of enemies and 2 different bosses. I would strongly advise you use the Howling Cannon if your not good at fighting the last boss. After completing several waves you will receive a chest this will either provide life or nimpo but on this mission you will always get life.

Boss Strategy 1 – Genshin

It is possible to loop genshin by performing the Izuna Drop Combo with either the Lunar Staff or Enma's Fang. The idea is once you hit the ground after a successful Izuna you must immediately start another. If you can pull this off you will defeat the boss without taking damage.

Boss Strategy 2 – Bone Fiend

If 1 person distracts the boss the other can shoot him with the Howling Cannon but this method will take a long time before the boss is defeated. Also the boss will fall to the ground once his health is depleted to a certain level when he falls shoot a Piercing Void Nimpo in his chest but DON'T perform an Ultimate nimpo as this will ruin it. If you hit his weak spot within his ribcage you will deal a considerable amount of damage therefore you will need to conserve your nimpo.

Master Ninja 02

As soon as the mission starts cast an Ultimate nimpo to wipe out all the flying enemies but on occasion 1 will survive. Now each player needs to take a boss and defeat them i personally use the Tonfa. When the boss finishes a combo press Square, Triangle, Square, Square, Triangle this will take a lot of damage off. Be careful as this boss will try and grab you often.

Once you take them out a chest will appear with some life. The next wave you should perform Ultimate techniques to dispatch the enemies quickly but beware these will explode when taken out. Complete the wave for another chest this will restore some nimpo. The next wave cast an Ultimate Nimpo to kill all the enemies and surprise surprise you get another chest. The final wave is against the Black dragon.

Master Ninja 03

This is the hardest Master Ninja mission of them all. There are 5 bosses to defeat after each boss a chest will appear with some much needed health. Please see below for boss strategy's:

Boss 1 – Alexia

It is imperative that you are using the Blade of the Archfiend as this is one of the best weapons in the game. The boss will always target the host therefore as soon as the boss is next to you use the following combo with the Blade of the Archfiend Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle.

If Alexia dodges it and starts attacking block the first hit and keep dashing to the left until his combo ends then use the combo above. If he tries to pound the ground you can jump to evade the attack. If he goes into a tornado spin you need to move L3 360 degrees and press Triangle if done correctly you will not receive any damage.

It is vital that you stay close to Alexia at all times as he can be a real handful if you give him space to breathe.

Boss 2 – Volf

There are many ways to take Volf out using the Blade of the Archfiend you can perform the combo Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle whenever his combo finishes and the combo L3 360 degrees and Triangle whenever he starts a combo.

Whenever he slams his fist on the ground you can execute a difficult move which you can use repeatedly to loop him by pressing Forward, Triangle and then hold Triangle if you keep doing it you can kill him without being hit. However if Volf hits a wall the combo will be broken.

Boss 3 – Zedonius

Zedonius is a pain if you can't deal with him. As soon as he starts shooting fireballs at you you have 2 options you can run away and evade them or you can interrupt his combo by pressing Square and X together then press Triangle however this takes great timing to pull off.

If he flies in the air he will slam the ground the easiest way to avoid being hit is by pressing Square and X together as soon as he is about to land or you can perform L3 360 degrees and Triangle using the blades.

Also if he shoots a beam of fire out of his chest both players can start to attack him if your using the Blade of the Archfiend do Triangle, Triangle, Triangle Triangle. Finally if he tries to grab you repeat the 4 Triangle combo.

Boss 4 – Elizabet

For many Elizabet is the hardest boss in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. She is fast and unpredictable and can kill you with minimal effort. Whenever you are fighting her its a lot easier if 1 player chooses Rachel as her Ultimate technique will do good damage and will get her attention.

If she is walking towards your partner try and hit her a few times with the Blade of the Archfiend. If she starts to fire blood at you run away if this hits you it will regenerate her life and you don't want that. Stay out of her ranged moves and slowly pick at her life bar until she is defeated.

Boss 5 – Fallen Genshin

This guy is hard to kill using the Blade of the Archfiend but you can use the L3 360 degrees and Triangle combowhenever his combo ends or whenever he lands but this boss has a lot of fire attacks which will penetrate your block.

The easiest way to beat him is with the Tonfa using the combo Forward, Triangle, Triangle, L1, Triangle. But if the first hit misses don't continue the combo if you do he will kill you in seconds. If you use the same method as Mentor 4 you will be fine.

Master Ninja 04

This mission can be done using 2 Rachel's the idea is to stay at the start of the map and shoot anything that moves. There are 7 waves of enemies in total once you defeat all 7 the mission is over. On wave 6 you will need to kill a lot of dogs therefore i would highly suggest using an Ultimate nimpo to wipe them out.

Master Ninja 05

In Master Ninja 05 you will have to beat both Genshin and Elizabet but the bad thing is as soon as the mission starts they are both waiting for you. The easiest way to beat this mission is with Ryu using the Lunar Staff and Rachel. If you can loop Genshin with the Lunar while your partner gets Elizabet's attention you will have a much easier time. Once Genshin is defeated you will need to defeat Elizabet to complete the mission.

Ultimate Ninja 01

Arguably the hardest team mission in the game. Ultimate ninja 1 pits you against Alexia, Volf and Elizabet at the same time! then when 2 bosses are defeated Zedonius comes in.

As far as strategy is concerned the host must be able to kill Volf as quickly as possible while the other partner twirls with Rachel. To twirl you need to hold L1 dash in any direction and move both L3 and R3 in the same direction and repeatedly tap L1. By doing this you are invulnerable to the enemies attacks.

Once Volf is taken care of try to kill Alexia next using the same method as described in Master Ninja 03. Then focus on Zedonius if you can beat Zedonius only Elizabet remains.

Ultimate Ninja 02

The second most difficult mission. As soon as the mission starts the host must go to the left and shoot the 3 archers with the bow and arrow whilst the team mate keeps the boss occupied. Once the archers are cleared out if you have the Tonfa use the same combo for Master Ninja 02.

When the wave is beaten immediately chant an Ultimate nimpo if you time it right the next wave will appear and be killed except the boss. If you have the Tonfa use the Forward, Triangle, Triangle, L1, Triangle combo.

The next wave chant another Ultimate Nimpo and defeat the boss. If the boss starts to chant charge an Ultimate technique and release as soon as she fires them at you. If she starts going into a spin simply block and dash the last hit then if you perform a Flying Swallow you can temporarily stun the boss and use the Square, Triangle, Square, Square, Triangle combowith the Tonfa.

The final wave consists of 3 Fallen Genshin's if your partner can twirl then you can fight the remaining Genshin 1 on 1 if you win then you have to pick another off your team mate. Once all 3 Genshin's are defeated the mission is complete.

Ultimate Ninja 03

This is a very hard mission to beat. As soon as the mission begins cast an Ultimate Nimpo then both players must choose a Buddha Statue to destroy. Once they are taken care of the next wave will begin consisting of 2 Statue of Liberty's.

If you have the Howling Cannon then you will be fine as long as your partner can twirl with Rachel in the centre of the 2 bosses. The player with the Cannon needs to go to a corner and shoot the statue at the far end. Once the first is taken out move to the other side and repeat.

Ultimate Ninja 04

This is by far the easiest Ultimate Ninja mission. As soon as the mission begins cast an Ultimate Nimpo and as long as you can both loop with either the Lunar Staff or the Enma's Fang this level will be completed in less than a minute as there are only 2 enemies to kill for mission complete.

Ultimate Ninja 05

The final mission isn't too hard as long as you adopt the right strategy. In my experience there are 2 ways of completing Ultimate Ninja 05. You can either loop the first 3 Bosses with Izuna Drops and loop the last 2 on the last wave or you can use the Eclipse Scythe with Ryu while your partner twirls to get all 3 of their attention while you spam Ultimate techniques with the Scythe at distance and repeat the same technique for the second wave.

Boss Strategy's 101

Chapter 1 – Shadow Ninja Rasetsu

This boss has a few nasty attacks at his disposal he has a deadly mid-range grab attack which will take a chunk off your health bar. The key to taking this boss down is to wait until he finishes his combo before you start attacking if your doing this on the single player campaign the easiest way to beat him on any difficulty is to use the Dragon Sword and use Triangle, Triangle.

Chapter 1 – Buddha Statue

You will face this boss twice during chapter 1 the boss can also grab you and can deal a lot of damage to you in the process. If you see the statue chanting you should dash out of the way until the pillars disappear. The easiest way to beat him is to stay next to his hand so he can't grab you and then you should follow up any opportunities to attack with Triangle, Triangle with the Dragon Sword.

Chapter 2 – Genshin

Genshin is the leader of the Black Spider Ninja Clan. Genshin himself is a formidable opponent and is a “greater fiend”. In my experience the easiest way to beat him is to loop him with the Izuna Drop combo for the Lunar Staff Square, Triangle, Square, Square, Square, Triangle. Then once you land immediately repeat the combo.

However if you find it hard to loop i use the Dragon Sword as i am not good at looping . I use Triangle, Triangle then Triangle, Triangle whenever he misses me. Credit to Syaoman for uploading.

Chapter 2 – Shadow Ninja Gyuki

This is a rematch of the fight in Chapter 1 as long as you do the same method as in Chapter 1 you will be perfectly fine.

Chapter 3 – Lightning Train

This boss cannot be damaged with your normal weaponry the only way to hurt this boss is by firing arrows with the Fiend's Bane Bow. The boss itself is not too difficult as long as you evade the bosses attacks you will be fine.

Chapter 4 – Blind Fiend

The Blind Fiend is a giant demon you fight on a steel bridge in Tokyo, Japan. The boss has a scream attack which will send you flying so watch out for that. When fighting this boss i always position myself between his legs and when the boss lifts his foot wait until his foot reaches the ground and perform a dash. Again Triangle, Triangle with the Dragon Sword works well here.

Chapter 4 – Alexia

When fighting Alexia with the Dragon Sword there is a way to loop him but it isn't without its risks the combo is Foward + Triangle and Triangle. Personally i prefer to use Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle whenever he is open to an attack. Credit to the youtube user Syaoman for uploading this video.

Chapter 4 – Statue of Liberty

This boss fight occurs right after you defeat Alexia. The first time i saw this boss i thought to myself “Shit i need a bigger weapon!” but the bigger they are the harder they fall. The boss will slam his arms to the ground creating shockwaves of electricity the only way to do damage to the boss is to attack the arms until the bracelet is broken.

Once the bracelet is broken you will need to attack the other hand otherwise if you keep attacking the same arm you will do no damage. Once both bracelets are off the neck becomes a weak spot, simply shoot arrows with the Fiend's Bane Bow until the boss is defeated.

Chapter 5 – Tengu Brothers

This fight is a real pain on Master Ninja difficulty and catches a lot of players out. What sets this boss apart from the previous one's is there is 2 of them to kill. However if you stand next to the door and wait until a Tengu comes near you. You can keep repeating the Square, Squarecombo over and over again until he jumps in the air. But this takes practice as if you accidentally press Square too much you will get hit. Credit to Syaoman for uploading.

Chapter 6 – Blue Dragon

The easiest way to kill the Blue Dragon is to use Enma's Fang and spam Ultimate techniques. If the Dragon turns his head he is about to send a school of Piranha's after you as soon as he turns his head charge an Ultimate technique and release when the fish are close.

If the boss performs a scream attack simply dash or get out of the way then you can follow up with a few hits of your own with Square, Square, Square, Square. It is also possible to kill the Blue Dragon by using the Howling Cannon but its more difficult this way. Credit to oboroshogun for uploading.

Chapter 7 – Bone Fiend

The Bone Fiend isn't as bad as he looks. To make this fight a hell of a lot easier i would highly suggest you upgrade the Piercing Void nimpo to level 3 before you fight him. If you stand underneath his legs you can use the Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle combo with the Dual Katana's however be careful as you will need to block and dash when the boss starts to spin in circles.

After a certain amount of damage has been taken the boss will fall to the ground now is your chance as soon as he starts to fall shoot your Piercing Void nimpo directly at the ball of light in his ribcage if you hit it you will take maybe 50% off his life.

Chapter 7 – Volf

Volf can be looped with the Dual Katana's by pressing Forward, Triangle and hold Triangle simply repeat this to kill him. You can also beat him by rotating L3 360 degrees and pressing Triangle when he is about to attack and then hit him with Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle. Credit to Syaoman for uploading. Note: This demonstration is done in Chapter 15 but it works against him wherever you are.

Chapter 8 – Marbus

Marbus is the greater fiend of the underworld and is unique compared to the previous boss fights as this boss can actually summon minions to aid him in battle. As soon as his life is depleted to certain levels he will summon help.

The most important thing to remember when fighting him is to always charge an Ultimate technique if he is about to fly across the screen or if he is going into a tornado spin in the air. If you release the Ultimate technique at the right time you can hit him without taking damage.

Chapter 9 – Genshin Round 2

Once again the leader of the Black Spider ninja clan stands in your way. Like the previous fight as long as you can loop him with the Lunar Staff or the Enma's Fang you will be fine if you can't loop just do my method.

Chapter 9 – Blaze Armadillo

For many players this guy is a pain on master ninja difficulty. The problem with this boss is that he will spam fireballs out of his back the easiest way to avoid being killed is to use your nimpo. If the boss starts to breathe fire this is a great opportunity to do some damage to him. Additionally when you beat him don't forget to block the explosion or you will need to do it again.

Chapter 10 – Blind Fiend Round 2

Once again this boss needs to be disposed of however this time around the fight is much easier as long as you upgraded the dual katana's to level 2 by using the combo Triangle, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle you will wither him down in no time.

Chapter 10 – Zedonius



As long as you follow the method mention a few posts above you will be fine but it takes a few tries to master the ground slam attack especially on master ninja difficulty as that can wipe out 80% of your life.

Chapter 11 – Obaba

Obaba is a mysterious witch who is apart of the Black Spider clan. She has a nasty habit of jumping around the battlefield. If you see her chanting you can either charge up a Ultimate technique or you can perform an i-frame (L3 360 degrees and Triangle). If your fighting her up close she will attack generally 2 or 3 times after that you can attack her.

If she tries to grab you, you can perform a flying swallow which has a chance to stun her this move is useful when she lands on the ground or tries to grab you. When she is stunned use the Square, Square, Square combo but be careful as as soon as she gets back up she will try to grab you.

Chapter 12 – Black Dragon

The Black Dragon isn't too difficult but there are some important moves to stop you from taking damage. If the dragon raises his front legs he is about to create a pool of fire underneath you so i would suggest you jump out of the way.

If he flies up in the air he will land with tremendous force therefore is you perform a i-frame or an Ultimate technique you will be fine as long as you time it right. One of the most difficult moves to evade is when the dragon dashes across the screen leaving a trial of fire in its path. I have seen players using Square and X together but its difficult to time.

Finally once you get his life to around 40% you have the chance to perform a Obliteration technique which will slice the dragon's tail off. However once this has been cut off the dragon will send fire through its body preventing you from hurting him so i would suggest you go for the legs.

Chapter 13 – Elizabet

I would strongly recommend you have the Eclipse Scythe upgraded to level 3 and perform on-landing Ultimate techniques to wither her life down. To perform an on-landing Ultimate technique jump and as soon as you land hold Triangle. As long as you keep your distance you can kill her by repeating this process.

When i fight her i simply get to a safe distance perform an on-landing Ultimate technique then evade her attack if need be and repeat until she dies. However you can use the Dual Katana's i-frame whenever she is about to start a combo but this requires immense timing as if you mistime you are most likely dead.

Chapter 14 – Genshin Round 3

Although you fight Genshin at the end of Chapter 14 you will also encounter several other bosses along the way including the Tengu brothers and 2 Rasetsu's. When your fighting the Tengu's if you have the Tonfa upgraded you can use the combo Forward, Triangle, Triangle, L1, Trianglethis will deal massive damage to them. As for the Rasetsu use the Tonfa and use the combo Square, Triangle, Square, Square, Triangle.

Chapter 15 – Marbus

Marbus is the greater fiend of the underworld and is able to summon minions to aid him in battle. If your playing on harder difficulty's i would suggest using your nimpo to dispose of his minions.

Chapter 15 – Zedonius

The same method of fighting Zedonius is still the same as before however this time around you are fighting on a small island surrounded by lava. If you jump across to the island on your left the minions that Zedonius will summon can't reach you therefore you can fight him 1 vs 1.

Chapter 15 – Volf

As long as you use either the Dual katana's loop by using Forward, Triangle and hold Triangle and repeat you should be fine or you can rotate L3 360 degrees and press Triangle whenever the boss is about to grab you or attack you.

Chapter 16 – Tengu Brothers/Rasetsu and Alexia

As long as you use the strategy's i have mentioned above you will be absolutely fine. The Tengu fight can be difficult as you fight them both in a short narrow corridor which makes this fight pretty tough as you don't have much space to move.

Chapter 17 – Fiend Genshin

This is Genshin's stronger form he is more aggressive and can break through your block with his fire attacks. If you use the Tonfa's upgraded to level 3 and use the combo mentioned in master ninja 03 you will be fine.

Chapter 17 – Elizabet

Normally Elizabet is a pain in the arse but you fight her after you have killed Fiend Genshin fortunately for you his body is still on the battlefield. Try to lure Elizabet to the corpse and she won't be able to get through to you if your standing on the other side. Then if you upgraded the Eclipse Scythe to level 3 you can simply perform Ultimate techniques to kill her.

Chapter 17 – Dagra Dai

Dagra Dai is the infernal priest of the underworld who is also responsible for trying to resurrect the Archfiend from its eternal slumber. Dagra Dai is a formidable adversary he can not only summon fiends to aid him but he can disappear and re-appear in any direction.

In my experience the easiest way to beat him is to use the Dual katana's at level 4 and rotate L3 360 degrees and press Triangle whenever he is chanting magic as you are invulnerable to attack while performing this move.

Chapter 17 – Archfiend lower form

This is the first battle against the Archfiend surprisingly the only weapon you will need to defeat him is the Fiend's Bane bow. After you shoot the head blood will come pouring down at you but his chest will light up. After you have dodged the blood shoot the chest.

If the boss tries to shoot a laser beam through his chest then you can either dodge it by dashing or jumping out of the way or you can perform a 360 degree move. Unlike the other boss battles once you wear his life down to certain intervals you will need to scale the mountain to reach him before you can fight him again.

Chapter 17 – Archfiend True form

Welcome to the final battle this guy is a pain on master ninja difficulty. One of the most annoying moves is when the Archfiend punches the ground 3 or 4 times in rapid succession you can jump at the right time to avoid being hit but you need great timing.

He can also fly away from you and shoot fireballs at you which can easily be evaded however if you try to fight him up close he has a tendency to grab you and he will try to grab you often.

The best opportunity you have to attack him is when he is walking towards you. You can also hit him a few times when he tries to grab you but if your playing on the hardest difficulty setting he will kill you in a single grab so you need to be patient when you fight him.

If only I was good at games like this one… I'd pick this up. I have the first Ninja Gaiden Sigma but I really suck at it. I'm currently playing Devil May Cry 3 (yeah, OLD game) and I'm starting to get good at it.

Anyway, outstanding guide man. Incredibly detailed and helpful. You must have some serious skills to get the platinum. If (that's a big if) I get this game, I'd definitely use it. Congratulations for the guide!

Thank you. Yes i remember playing Devil May Cry 3 it was one of my favourite ps2 games i managed to complete the game on hardest difficulty back in the day. Hopefully they should make Devil May Cry 5 soon :).

For me, the hardest difficulty is Dante Must Die!/Vergil Must Die!. Heaven or Hell is incredibly easy, but getting SS ranks on the missions is freaking hard. (Heaven or Hell is that mode where everything – including you- dies in one hit)

Devil May Cry 4's Hell or Hell mode is really hard. Seriously, having to spend a lot of time killing enemies while not getting hit once (it's the same as Heaven or Hell, but the enemies are not killed in one hit, only you ) is a test of patience and controller-preserving.

Yes i actually managed to break my ps3 controller when playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and before anybodys asks no i didn't throw it in rage :). I tend to play a lot of hack n slash games you could say its my favourite genre. I still have Bayonetta and Darksiders to play which should be fun.

But its also the skill to beat games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden on hardest difficulty as these are in my opinion the hardest hack n slash games out there. Demon's Soul's is difficult to but that game is very fun to play in co-op.
