any1 else think we should be able to put custom avatars on our psn account?

I agree it would be cool. But I also understand why Sony haven't put this as an option;
- it would require extra loading time to download each of your friends avatar, if you have 100 friends on your list it'll slow things down quite alot.
- people could add obscene or 18+ images etc

that is a good point although it would be a great idea just think of the lag

the lag of loading 20kb gif or jpeg. somehow i don't think that will be too bad.

They should add more avatars, we have had the same boring list for over 6 months now, give us more avatars!

If they updated them with characters etc then that would be good – I now have Nathan Drake, have had Ratchet and Nathan Hale but there aren't any others that I would use too much.
