Hey i just relised that even with 5 demos, 100+ songs, 5 vids and some picts & the fact i never delete game data, i still have 51GB out of my 80GB…
May 28, 2009 at 2:25 am #26898I773D33MABL3MemberI picked up a 60GB on release and my hard drive died after thirteen months. Sony replaced it for free with another 60GB and that burnt out after thirteen months. I’m currently waiting for my third 60GB. My first two PS3s died with full memory.
May 28, 2009 at 3:18 am #26899holy____batmanMemberI bought an 80 about a year and a half ago, then put in a 320 gig hard drive and have had no problems yet except the fact that I have 110 gb left that is after 92 movies dl on it about 60games and 50 psn games and about 5gb worth of movies
May 28, 2009 at 4:14 am #26902shadeblackParticipantaww see i don't use my ps3 as a media center. I use it for games and games only. I have only a couple videos and maybe about 200mb on music – the rest are game saves and game data etc.
as far as i can tell user accounts only take up additonal space in seperate game SAVES, but they are only a couple hunred kb each.
May 28, 2009 at 6:33 am #26904pobert06Memberyeah i've been using my HDD alot for watching movie and TV shows..almost 90 GB left of my 320 GB..Installing game data on the HDD doesnt seem to have any difference at all..For me i guess coz i don't see any difference in load times.
May 28, 2009 at 11:48 am #26915I773D33MABL3MemberQuite a few of you guys have replaced your hard-drives with bigger ones, it’s something I’m going to do with my latest PS3 and I was wondering what would be a reasonable size? I know the PS3 is compatible with some pretty large hard drives but “compatible with” doesn’t always equate to “function properly”.
May 28, 2009 at 12:40 pm #26920PS3 TrophiesKeymasterIt's working fine with HD's up to 500GB. Which I think is also the largest ones available atm.
May 28, 2009 at 5:54 pm #26950Oz-MetalheadMemberI have a 500GB hard drive in mine. Took me all of a few minutes to change out. It just took a few hours to back up my data before hand.
I'm running a Samsung 500GB 2.5 SATA drive at 5400RPM.
I wouldn't recommend going for one at 7200RPM as this may create more heat. 5400RPM is perfectly fine.
Also remember to sync your trophies before you back up your data and do the swap!
And research the exact steps you should take to do the swap out. I know it isn't rocket science but if you do things a different way you may run into all sorts of errors when you try to update your trophies. I did. And that's because i didn't update my trophies before i backed up. So the ones that were missing made an error pop up. Luckily it was only 5 trophies, so once i re earned them the error went away.

May 29, 2009 at 2:06 am #27015I773D33MABL3MemberThanks for the info guys. Unfortunately backing up my hard-drive isn’t an issue as the death of my (second!) PS3 took all my data with it. I’ll be starting from scratch again so I thought I’d upgrade the hard-drive straight away.
May 29, 2009 at 4:01 am #27017Atomic-GMemberi wish i could upgrade my hdd just dont want to risk it and also to lazy to do myself lol 🙂
