I had my 60Gb sku for about 2 years before the BD drive went, then got 4 sub-standard re-conned (diff. prob each time!) units before i just told them to give me a new 80Gb unit. Since then everything's been going smooth…
It's just the luck of the draw and i had prob's before they changed their poicy to fook everyone with the £150 sur charge so it wasn't to bad.
I'd still have a Ps3 over an x-box aytime… I hand my 360 for only 2 months, had to get rid cause it just ain't as good…
February 10, 2010 at 7:35 pm #57452XeroTheGreatMemberI've had mine for just over a year now (december 2008) and it's running smoothly. It's gone for months turned on non-stop (folding and playing games) before, and it's not even getting too noisy.
February 11, 2010 at 2:34 pm #57503ManicSurvivorMemberIve had my ps3 (i think its an 80GB) since June 2008 and its never had any problems. My room is always fairly cool as it is in the basement of my house and more than half of it is underground, so the ps3 never ends up getting too warm and i clear the dust off at least once a day. Like mine has even run non-stop for a good 8 or 9 hours before and its still great. Then again, i live in Canada and the winters here are pretty harsh, with over 7 feet high of snow and temperatures dropping as low as -30 xD
February 12, 2010 at 12:27 am #57547ZanatosMemberI got my PS3 on release, and have never had a problem. I didn't add any kind of cooler or anything, just keep it in an open area where it can breathe.
On a side note, in one years time I had 3 xbox 360… all 3 are now dead. Treated them the same way. Not a basher, just noticing…

Okay, so I am on my second ps3 at the moment. My first one the blu ray drive died out on me. Luckily it died during the last week of being under warranty. Sony sent me a refurb drive but same ps3. It came with the joke of a 90 day warranty. Well the drive died on day #92 (I guess I get this for being lucky the first time had a week left on the warranty). I had to pay $250 for a repair. So I paid it, unfortunately. I later sold it, 2 horrible games, one controller, and 2 strategy guides on ebay and got $550 out of it. Lucky I know. So I buy me an 80GB, and 3 year warranty with squaretrade for $115. So now if it breaks or I break it, it gets replaced without questions. So I no longer fear of my ps3 dying on me again. I recommend getting a squaretrade warranty if you buy a new ps3. You have 30 days of buying the ps3 to pick up the warranty. I got a squaretrade warranty on 2 iPhones that my family has as well.

February 12, 2010 at 6:06 am #57569tdsoil2Memberfirst off i would like to say that ps3 is not a joke because one will break down every now and then. xboxes bust like every week so lets make sure we dont bash sony for making a “half assed” product because a few get the ylod (which is fixable).
secondly, ive had mine for almost two years and never had any trouble with it. if you have one get the ylod ill chalk it up to a fluke, but if another one does ill have to start thinking that the common element is the user and maybe its their fault (not to point any fingers at anyone, im just speaking in generalities)
February 13, 2010 at 7:39 pm #57678monkeymoobsMembermy PS3 is 26 months old and still working fine just keep it cool and turn it off correctly
February 13, 2010 at 9:54 pm #57708Finch_92Memberthis forum dont really need to keep going now i was annoyed because i looked after my ps3s and the 1st ones blueray broke then the 2nd got the ylod i have a slim now anyway and am away too hopefully fix my ylod ps3 and sell it.
its more there 1 year warranty i dont like it was only a month out of warranty and its a bit unfair to have to pay £130 beacause the ps3 died through no fault of the owner but watever im over it now got my slim everythings kk now
