MemberThe only benefits i see is the $299 price point and the easy access to the hard drive.
Here are the things you lose:
- The ability to play ps2 and ps1 games
- the ability to put camera and video memory cards directly into the unit (Now you would have to buy a card reader that would plug into a usb slot…LAME)
- The piano black finish to the unit
- The loss of the cool touch sensitive buttons ('no buttons') look to the front of the unit. (on the new slim you have to physicall buttons ont he front of the unit you have to press down to power up the unit and eject the disk (Looks cheaper to go along with the cheeper price i guess)
CNETS review of the unit.

it all comes down to business sony are losing money on every ps3 sold this is just to cut costs back and make it new again to gain the public eye again
most of the cutbacks are to cut back price of manufactoring the units

1. ps2 games could'nt be played on the newest version of the “bulky” ps3, not sure about the psx games tho.
2. yes indeed, quite lame. I mean, how much does a card reader cost these days sony?
3. I like the new look, easier to keep clean to.
4. the touch buttons where cool but less consistent (did i press it or not). also real live buttons are more solid and less likely to break, touch buttons are alway a kind of risky operation. but they are way cooler those touch buttons 😀

Memberi must admit i <3 teh slim!
it is soooo lighter (you could take it anywhere by hand with ease
) and much smaller, and i think it looks much nicer than the normal ps3. it makes absolutely no noise at all either and i like the font of PS3 wrote on the top of it.

MemberI'm only keeping my old 20GB PS3 model, because it has the Backwards Compatibility, and 4 USB slots. Other than that, i would probably be picking up a slim.
