Does anyone know of some real scay movies? I've seen a lot and have never been scared of one, ever! I actually want to find one that is legitimately scary.
P.S. It doesn't matter if the movie is really low quality, or like an art house movie, it needs to be scary though. And I didnt find Paranormal Activity 1 or 2 scary at all.
August 15, 2011 at 4:09 am #70435RKF95MemberTry The Grudge or Shutter, movies dont really scare me but those were pretty good.
And if you wouldve thought Paranormal Activity was scary, you might of just been the biggest pus.sy Ive met

Lol, I actually know a lot of people who found it scary, and I also called them all pussies, and they complained of course I have seen both of those, and found neither scary of creepy for that matter, thanks for the post, I see someone cares
August 16, 2011 at 11:04 pm #70445Doc-BMemberI've watched some Asian films that i thought were pretty 'scary'… More unnerving than scary though…
A long creepy build up to one big twist/scare/gruesome moment…

I think the fact i know films are 'just actually films'… Along with not being a total girl… Make most 'scary films' more entertainment than scare…
August 17, 2011 at 12:49 am #70447RKF95MemberI just realized I said the grudge, WTF was I thinking that movie was terrible, I meant the ring. All those fuc.ken asian movies got me confused
BTW, the opening scene to mirrors was really good, the rest of the movie sucked, but if you havnt seen it just watch the first scene on youtube……. good sh.it

What Asian movies have you seen? I'd be a big fan of that stuff myself. I know what you mean by 'unnerve' rather than scare, their horror movies tend to be traditional ghost tales that creep you out rather than shock or frighten you. They don't really go for the monsters much.

Yeah I'd like to know as well, movies like the audition are very ununerving
August 18, 2011 at 9:16 pm #70466Doc-BMemberI'm not really into films in a big way… I can just remember of the films i have seen, the Asian films were normally better… Slower paced but better when everything 'clicks'…

I actually just checked the 'Tartan Asia Extreme' site and found out they went bust in 2008 So that shows how much films I actually watch… None of my favorite films are 'scary films'…
You could check this 'random guys' top ten list from 2010 – http://hasi-journal.blogspot.com/2010/05/top-10-asian-horror-movies.html
Might check a couple myself

'Audition' is pretty decent, especially if you haven't a clue what it's about when you sit down to it. The guy that directed it, Takashi Miike, is my favourite Asian director and has some crazy stuff to his name. He recently had a big hit with 'Thirteen Assassins'. It was unusual because not much of his work gets a cinema relase.
@Doc
I actually didn't know that and I buy loads of their stuff. It's not too much of a loss though as their releases could be hit-or-miss. They published a lot of shit.
August 19, 2011 at 5:21 am #70468HardAndSloppyMemberThat list does seem pretty decent, thanks for posting it, i think i may check out a few
Audition was pretty messed up. I heard it was a messed up movie and pretty creepy, so I decided to watch it. I watched it for like an hour and 20 minutes, and nothing creepy yet, but after that it was pretty f##cked up. It cathces you off guard because nothing was happening. I can never look at a dog food bowl the same ever again
August 19, 2011 at 6:45 pm #70469Doc-BMemberEven though I've signed up for, i never use that Mubi service… I noticed a couple of you have 'added' me… Are there actually any decent films on offer for free?

Here's a proper list for you HardAndSloppy – http://asian-horror-movies.com/indexm.html

Thanks a lot, you my friend are a good man I will check these out.
PS
Anymore anyone can think of?
August 19, 2011 at 11:04 pm #70476I773D33MABL3MemberLooking at the first list Doc posted I'd recommend 'A Tale of Two Sisters' and 'Dark Water'. I have both and the first is one of my favourite horrors ever.
Another great one is the original version of 'Premonition'. There was a diabolic Hollywood “adaptation” with Sandra Bullock but it was nothing like the source material.
And in the vein of traditional ghost stories you might want to give 'R-Point' or 'Whispering Corridors' a glance.
Also, Tartan Asian Extreme had two DVDs out called 'Three Extremes'. They're both made up of three short films directed by the heavy-weights of Asian cinama. The first one is easily the best and has a film called 'Box' by Takashi Miike that is one of the best he's done. Very understated by his standards but just proof that the man can turn his hand to anything.
August 20, 2011 at 2:49 am #70477HardAndSloppyMemberHas anyone ever watch the show/movies masters of horror, heard it was good, and it has all of the best horror directors doing directing them, seems interesting.
