So its out in a couple of days but no-one here seems to have given it much attention. Surprising really when you consider the involvement of Shinji Mikami and Goichi Suda
Reviews are very positive with the launch trailer containing:
Blood & Gore
Intense Violence
Nudity
Sexual Themes
Strong Language
Sounds like DNF only better

Personally I'll check it out once I've cleared my current backlog (may be a couple of quid cheaper by then too )
June 22, 2011 at 1:41 am #70010HardAndSloppyMemberhey hey!!!! Duke was still pretty entertaining, and it wasnt as bad ass all the reviews say. and yes shadows of the damned does look pretty cool, gonna rent it tomorrow.
June 22, 2011 at 3:20 am #70012Seibei4211MemberShadows of the Damned is pretty kickass, although I've only done the first two levels so far. I like the upgrade system, cause it's pretty simple, but effective. The controls are gonna take a little bit of getting used to. Like, not the actual button layout, but the way you aim and move and stuff feels a little floaty, but I'm sure I'll get used to it with some practice. It's not really too bad. There is so much weird crap in this game, too, so that in itself makes the game worth it already.
June 22, 2011 at 8:32 am #70015gr8jrfanMemberI heard there was a gun in the game called the “big boner” that shoots out bones. I’m glad that the reveiws are positive, I might just buy this game.
June 22, 2011 at 5:33 pm #70018Seibei4211MemberAll your guns shoot out either bones, teeth, or skulls. I think it's really neat that the guns are color-coded, too. And whichever gun you have equipped changes the light from your torch to that color. By the way, these bosses are actually really fun. So far they haven't just been some run of the mill “shoot until life bar is empty” deal. You've had to do certain stuff to reveal the bosses weakpoint and wail on that. It's like some good ol' fashioned Zelda stuff.
June 23, 2011 at 5:30 am #70019HardAndSloppyMemberI played a couple levels so far and I must say, it's pretty damn awesome. It is one of the most original and strang games I've played in a while. It really reminds me of the grindhouse movies, machete, and hobo with a shotgun (which is amazing!).
June 24, 2011 at 6:37 pm #70024HardAndSloppyMemberi just beat it, and i believe this is probably the hidden jem of the year so far.
June 25, 2011 at 12:44 am #70034Seibei4211MemberYeah, this game pretty much kicks ass. For anyone looking to get this game, though, unless you're dying to play this or you don't mind paying full price, I'd recommend waiting for a price drop. It really is a frighteningly short game with no replay value. I don't regret paying full price like I did with inFamous 2, but I didn't know it'd be quite this short.
June 25, 2011 at 7:28 am #70037HardAndSloppyMemberthe things that are annoying about the game are the aiming, and the fact that the difficulty level trophies are not stackable. The aiming is really “loose”. I dont know how else to say it. It's like resident evil 4 aiming put on extra sensative. You kind of get used to it though. I would probably say rent it, but then again i rent most of my games because i beat them too quickly
June 25, 2011 at 5:36 pm #70039Seibei4211MemberThe first thing I did with every playthrough was turn the aiming down by one. It helped a little bit. Then you just get used to it afterwards. The way the camera didn't come to an immediate stop also took some getting used to. Once you upgrade the Boner's damage, it's not like you need to aim anyway. The two things I hated the most about the game were the chase scenes (or at least until I figured out exactly what to do in each one) and 4-1.
Anyway, just Plat'd it last night. Guess it's time to take it back and move on to the next game.

which part is 4-1?
June 26, 2011 at 1:10 am #70045I773D33MABL3MemberWell lads, you've successfuly sparked my interest in this. What am I looking at length-wise? As in how long long is an average playthrough? And if the difficulty trophies aren't stackable, how many playthroughs are needed?
And are there any missable trophies I'd need to keep an eye out for?
June 26, 2011 at 7:26 am #70046HardAndSloppyMemberI beat it on normal in about 7 and a half hours. But I am usually quick at beating games, so lets say about 9-10 and if you play it on hard then 11-12. There are three levels of difficulty easy, normal, and hard. The missable trophies would probably be the ones where you have to find the collectables, and the one where you have to shot and enemy in the head after shooting him in the leg, while he is in mid-air! Good game all together, but i could see someone platinuming it in about 25 hours, so maybe a rental.
June 27, 2011 at 8:24 am #70058Seibei4211Member4-1 is The Big Boner. That section got old before I even finished the chapter the first time. I could've done without that section completely. The 2D sections were ok, but it seemed kinda stupid that the enemies spawned based on the camera and not based on where you actually were.
Anyway, yeah, I did my Normal run (which was my last run) in 6 1/2 hours or something. And I was, by no means, rushing through that. If I hadn't made that pit stop at the infinite spawn, I could've done it under 6 hours. And that's probably including cutscenes. And if you don't count the Prologue and Big Boner/2D sections, which hardly count as a part of the game since they're more like mini-games, it's even less.
Another missable trophy type would be the weapon kills. Since they upgrade automatically, you could miss out on the trophy during a playthrough, but it's perfectly possible to get each one in one playthrough like I did. And you'll wanna get High in Las Vegas on Easy since it's probably impossible on any other difficulty.
June 28, 2011 at 6:27 am #70068HardAndSloppyMemberi found those parts refreshing, because they lead you off from the basic aim and shoot like usually. and i forgot about the upgrade one
