Im 15, year 11 and (not to be racist) about 95% of the Maori (blacks) at my skool are smokers or stoners. Its rubbish every single one of them aged 12-17 is throwing there life away for what a smoking stick that ruins ur heart, lungs, liver or just to get high and feel “cool”. Its pointless! Why can they not see that drugs, smoking, alcohol and gangs aren't cool things. Just cause you may feel cool urself it doesn't make it so. And as a part Maori myself u wouldnt believe how annoying it is when all u hear is people going on about how much they hate Maori's. But what they actualy hate is the way that most of the Maori population act. So I feel wronglfully blamed if I get insulted. Ive never smoked and never will, Ive had less than 100ml of alcohol im my whole life, ive never been high and never will and I hate gangs! Damn you cigarettes!!!
October 8, 2009 at 2:46 am #45218WW2fighter23Member@parnakas – you are right, people know that weed doesnt do anything bad to you so the do it, like it and then get used to it, it doesnt make them high anymore after getting used to it, so the find harder core drugs to do that will really mess you up to get that high feeling back. i still think it should be legal and the persons choice if they want to mess up their life, even though i dont smoke and wont ever.

LA isn't as bad as it sounds, I have some friends who moved out there after college, and I interviewed at UCLA for a job. The thing with it is when you see headlines its always about the bad news, rarely the good news… and that can be generalized to the world. People love to read about misery.
@WarGear – yeah thats right I spelled it with letters cause I didn't feel like figuring out the numbers… heh. any way, yeah friends do play a huge influencial part in our lives. Just don't forget, smoking ciggerettes may be a dumb choice, but it doesn't make you a bad person. Don't shun anyone for making their decisions, just make sure you keep making your own decision.
@WW2Fighter – The legality of weed and tobacco are both based on taxation in the US, although many people (generally any school “educational” staff) will try to tell you otherwise. General summary of what happened: the cannibus plant has a root portion known as hemp. When fully grown hemp has a large number of uses and a main one is pulp production. This pulp can be used to make paper. When the US was being founded, the people founding it were rich white land owners. Despite creating a “land of the free”, really they wanted to create a land free of England's taxation, and keep their money. At the time, the way to do this was by having land full of trees that could be sold for money, which would keep them in power. The hemp from cannibus was seen as a threat to their business, and since they were in power, they made it illegal. Of course, to help justify this they spread tons of propaganda about how it was the devil's weed, and its evil, etc etc blah blah blah to hide the truth. Again, a very very general summary there. Now fast forward to present date. Marijuana is still illegal, even though there are known medicinal uses for it. Tobacco is legal, with no medicinal uses, and extremely addictive properties. Alcohol is legal, with no real medicinal uses, and a high toxicity level… as in, it can kill people. For marijuana to kill you, you have to smoke more than your own weight's worth (a feat that has yet to be accomplished). Does this all sound bass ackwards to you, or is it just me?
Sorry for the essay guys, but I've had many events in my life that make me passionate about this sort of topic. I guess the main thing is that people will make bad decisions, but it doesn't necesarily mean they're bad people. It sucks watching good friends slide down that slippery slope. So don't just watch, help them back on their feet if you can.
About the first bit of your post – It's only news nowadays if it's bad news!

the only thing i have to say is quite simple.
don't judge “todays Youth” by what two misguided people did.
Its a little more then 2 misguided people , as Parnakas said alot of people in his school does it , and after school i can see about 3 groups of 50 all in a smoke circle outside .

@BigWoopMagazine –, it think weed should be legal, it doesnt harm you, and if you think it does, no one is forcing you to do it,
but it does hurt it can contribute to lung disorder and damage your short term memory.

October 8, 2009 at 2:58 pm #45252BigWoopMagazineMember@redbren – its funny, after posting that yesterday I went home and turned on some South Park, and the particular episode was all about the news and media being very negative, and everyone in town just buying into it, as if there was nothing positive in the world just because the news never talks about it. Good stuff.
@iruleu – the short term memory “damage” is really temporary. Waiting for the chemical to process out of the body brings mental abilities back… they just are inhibited by it, not damaged. Also, if it were legal then smoking it wouldn't be necessary. Large quantities would be easy to obtain for cooking and eating. People still do this in countries where it is illegal, but in legalized areas its much much more common. Not that I'm encouraging or condoning the use of, I just wanted to point out that it doesn't have to be physically harmful.
I guess really the point is though, any way you look at it, ciggs are bad for you. Weed and alcohol are arguable, its kind of a gray area. Responsible individuals who use it only every once in a while, it can be okay. Hey, I like to go out and get drunk on a weekend sometimes, and thats my right. I still go to work and contribute to society. But that kind of responsibility is learned and earned. That's part of growing up. Good luck guys.

the minority of the majority does not justify the means, nor the cause.

Exactly to quote Lee Evans “You never get interrupted in the middle of Eastenders with a big screen saying BREAKING NEWS just to hear everyone tell you that everyone in studio is feeling great and there are absolutely no problems” Well actually sorry it's a reference, not a quote they're not his exact words.
October 8, 2009 at 11:25 pm #45333AstroDuckMemberI started smoking cigarettes when I was 16 and I smoke weed now.
I didn't turn out to be a horrible person, and I didn't throw my life away.
The fact that you think so shows that your a bunch of elitists.
I'm sorry for making waves.
But that is completely ridiculous.
There are retards who smoke and think they are edgy.
Then there are those who don't hang out with crowds, got good grades, and got a good paying job like me.
And the whole “People smoke to look cool” thing is stupid.
People who smoke for peer pressure are doing it to be accepted by a group of their peers so they can feel a part of the pack.
People Who randomly start smoking start for their own devices.
Nobody does it to feel cool, especially with elitists like you guys calling them losers (more or less).
I'm sure there are a few Douchers who think it makes the look badass because they are too wrapped up in their own retarded ego to realize their an idiot for using that as a reason.
Now again, I'm not trying to make waves.
But I had to say this to add alittle perspective to your one sided thread.
That was just a completely ignorant generalization.
And before you go stating the facts you read off the back of a cereal box, or from schools which abolish anything that permits having fun (electronic and trading cards for example of the most benign). The truth is that most marijuana propaganda is bias and school, state, and government give it a bad name knowing little about the subject using flimsy non-credible tests then pushing it on the impressionable youth and religious fanatics to further their dream of what they consider a perfect society. Make sure you research the facts before you oppose something you clearly know nothing about.

Although, there shouldn't be smoking in or around school anyway.
That's just a lack of respect for it's policies and other peoples wishes not to inhale the smoke.

&
2) i personally think its retarded that people start. I mean come on. you can go to jail for doin weed.
October 9, 2009 at 2:19 am #45360TomTom12992MemberI do feel that weed should be legalized because think about it
Cigarettes are legal and they are far worse for you than weed. And the same thing with alcohol.
I don't smoke but I just feel that it should be legalized because one the government could tax it and then make a profit off of it just like they do with cigarettes.
October 9, 2009 at 9:01 am #45384pool96MemberWeed should be realised because it's just a plant. I mean it just grows there.
