havent been on the site in ages, but i have found enough reason to retrieve my p-w, and log back in to express my unhappiness with FIFA 11.
First of all, yes, i have been a FIFA fan since they came out. Have got every edition since 02 i believe on release date, and found they have always improved upon the prior predecessor. However… i have found that FIFA 11 is enough to push my nearer a decision of trading in and buying pro evo.
The demo seemed good. A little hard to get used to, and Drogba was inhumanely strong, but then again i wouldnt like to be the centre-half to have to stop him. So, i got used to the demo, after struggling to score, and playing out many 0-0's, thought i was just starting to get the hang of it, and got the game for £30 from ASDA on release.
Right – where do i start, i am unhappy with the gameplay in many aspects. One of the huge annoying factors that annoying the living hell out of me on FIFA 10 was the stupid shouts the referees made. I assumed that with the addition of strict/lenient referees would neutralise this, but i have just played a match now where almost every decision was ridiculous, extortionate amounts of free kicks given against me for tackles which upon the replay weren't just “fine”, they were perfect, and this isnt just slide tackles. in fact, it is much more often a good challenge, shoulder to shoulder, and then – free kick :/ This left me bemused and i am getting really annoyed….
Another glitchy part of the game are the offsides. For some reason, FIFA must have decided that it would be amusing to watch people's reactions to stop the referees playing advantage on offsides. For example, if the striker is a mile offside, and the ball is played to him, yes it should be offside. Blow your whistle, give me a free kick, thank you very much. HOWEVER, when the player is a mile offside, the ball is nowhere near the destined target, and my player intercepts it, please dont blow your goddamn whistle. I have 3 strikers all running, let me play advantage and score on the counter!.
A third annoying point is the defaulted controllers to auto switching to “Air Balls”. Doesnt sound too bad, but in the context of the game it is pathetic. It is inconsistent, and so only works occasionally, i had one perfect ball looping over to Carlton Cole,( )it didn't switch to him, and then i had to switch to him manually. This of course is the L1 button, and resulted in him trying a chipped volley, which instead of nestling in the open net, set up and clipped the bar on its way down. I know you can change the controllers, but i don't understand why default the option to an untried, untested and new option. i don't want to have to change the settings as then i feel i am cheating by making it easier, and really i wouldn't find any gratification from winning a game.
A final point i will make about the gameplay is the runs the strikers make. When pressing l1, it triggers a run, this is fine. A problem on fifa 10 was the poor runs they made, and the fact you couldn't stop them. this resulted in Full backs rampaging up the pitch, and not coming back, which makes it very interesting when you lose the ball. This problem is still the same in FIFA 11, and to an extent worse. A striker will make stupid runs, such as , and i had the perfect example i was going to upload, but to rub salt into the wounds, EA servers wouldn't let me upload….. – where the player decided to make a run, and stop, then start again, getting in the way of the ball when i passed it across the pitch. Extremely frustrating, i dont like EA any more….
The main and most notable reason i am annoyed at FIFA 11 is, however , the fact that my game seems to keep freezing for a few seconds in game, and in virtual pro games. I initially thought it was my disc, but then tried it in a different playstation and it was fins. This led me to look online and to see that others had experienced the same problem. Apparently the save data needs to be completely deleted and you have to start from scratch again. Very annoying as i have improved my virtual pro, dont really want to have to do it again. has anyone else had this problem, and has anyone verified that deleting save data cures it? i dont want to do it for no point to be honest.
To conclude this rant, if i dont see an improvement, even a patch – which obviously wont start to stop the gameplay flaws i identified previously, i reallly cannot be arsed to continue perservering with FIFA anymore…
October 15, 2010 at 6:03 pm #67312KnoxieMemberi'll have to admit referees arent fifas strong point. if you're that pee'd off just about the usual ones, DONT turn on handballs. yeh, i thought i'd make it more realistic turning it on.. turns out when turning sidewards for a block (which really couldnt miss your arm if it his upper body) it is a handball! not only this but at FK's when it hits a players arm in the wall by accident, it usually results in a foul too. :S i havent had as much of a problem with making perfect sliding tackles and theyre given as a foul, maybe the odd one but it hasnt been too much of a factor.
also, offsides have never been fifas strong point either. if the players back foot is on line with the last defenders foot, the attacker tends to never be given the benefit of the doubt. :/ and havent they took out the thing where when theres a offside theres always a FK even if you intercept? well its hardly happened to me (actually i think never) other than in the demo.
btw the servers are never supportive in the first couple of weeks after release. so i guess you wouldve probs been signed out of EA before trying to upload.
and on your point about the freezing, aye i get it sometimes, but its only for like 2 secs and it only happens on pro ranked matches for me like once in 5 games or so. not really a significant problem i guess but it shouldnt happen in the 1st place.
imo fifa 11 is amazing even tho it does have its weaknesses, and it has been greatly improved upon since fifa 10 and that was my fav game of last/this year. my main problems has had to been when i was winning 2-1 in an online H2H match and i got signed out :/ causing me to lose the game and making my record 6W to 1L when i wanted to not lose a game for so long, but i guess i can live with that!
October 15, 2010 at 6:25 pm #67319NodanodMemberi agree with you to an extent, lol. i have never really played Pro Evo much, what is the comparision to it and fifa with regards to offsides and free kicks? and also, i didnt realise you could turn on handball 😛
I think the thing with fifa is, they have to make it as realistic as possible, but that isnt necesarrily practical. It meant we had several people calling for FIFA 11 to not have the 100% accurate offside rule, when really, its not realistic we want, its to have a flaw-free game that resembles the true sport and how its played in real life. so really, its not bringing in handball or stuff like that, its ironing out these silly bugs which, as you said , shouldnt happen. i've deleted my FIFA 10 data, which is annoying, but had to be done, and i'll post the feedback later when i've tried it for a while to see if the freezing continues.
October 16, 2010 at 1:08 am #67352KnoxieMemberpes 11 demo was enjoyable, for me anyways. the passing system is the main thing i liked, how its more you controlling the pass than the CPU. but as far tackling – it is 10x worse than fifa and im not joking! its basically impossible to slide from an angle other than straight ahead without conceding a foul, which i thought is rediculous. as for offsides i found them quite rare, but thats because pes is a little less free flowing, and harder to get the players to run at the time you want them too.
good luck with the freezing issue btw, i got it on another EA game (Medal of Honor) when online (suprise?) a couple of times before. – seems an EA issue, rather than the ps3 or disc.
