Just post your favourite songs that you like due too its lead guitar , sorry if there is a similar thread like this, a quick search of guitar shows 6 pages so i briefly looked through the first 2 of them, anyway my favourite;
1st) Stairway To Heaven-Led Zepellin (lead guitarist-jimmy page) (bet you didnt expect that!)-love the lead from start to finish, it's even better now i can play along lol, my only problem is im still not getting the X11 bit in the solo sounding too good
Joint 1st)Shine On You Crazy Diamond-Pink Floyd (guitarist-David Gilmour) -love the (8 minute) intro just were you think it cant get any better the final solo before the vocals comes in, and that one sounds incredible, recommend listening to it if you've never heard it before
2nd)All along the watchtower-Jimi Hendrix-i could list all jimi hendrix songs in this thread but i'll just pick this one for the pretty cool intro, but there are so many over great sounding songs (guitar wise) from hendrix…
3rd) Freebird-Lynyrd Skynyrd (Guitarist-Gary Rossington i thinki)) love the intro and solo
4th)Electric Light Orchestra-Mr.Blue Sky (guitarist -Jeff Lynnes(i think))-absolutley love the strumming pattern, and the solo is great, one of the reasons i love telecasters lol
think that should be enough for now…

You really can't go far wrong with Jimi………..
February 20, 2010 at 6:46 pm #58160tommyflopMemberPink floyd – comfortably numb
Guns n roses – sweet child is classic but pretty much anything slash did was awesome
Megadeth – Holy wars, again Dave Mustaine still is a great solo writer
Iron Maiden – Killers, Dave Murray was a solo god!!!
Jimi Hendrix – Voodoo Chile, So far ahead of his time it's untrue!!!
Metallica – One is a masterpiece, Kirk Hammett one of my all time favourite guitarists, u can add master of puppets and Fade to black

February 20, 2010 at 7:01 pm #58162r23drummerMemberIm more into drum orientated music, coz i find that in a lot of guitar heavy music the drums really basic (im a drummer btw ) and i just hate that.
However, Free Bird would be a staple of this type of thread, Iron Maiden and Metallica too. Everlong by Foo Fighters too? Sorry, cant contribute very well

Hands down one of the most intricate lead parts you will ever hear in your life..
2. 3's And 7's – Queens Of The Stone Age (Josh Homme)
If you don't know how to play this song in full yet, you are not a real guitar player imo.
3. Dee – Ozzy Osbourne or Revelation Mother Earth – Ozzy Osbourne (Randy Rhodes is the guitarist)
Many people don't know this guitarist, but he is one of the greats, better than Jimi if you ask me, and the guitar in these songs are amazingly done..
4. Since I've Been Loving You – Zeppelin (Jimmy Page)
This song has some really cool lead parts throughout the song, and the solo is one of the most orgasmic ever!
5. Map Of The Problematique – Muse (Matthew Bellamy)
Sure, this song is full of effects, but the guitar work is really amazing, and extremely innovative!
These are the songs that just come to my mind right now, and are in no particular order..
And um.. btw, Jimmy Page is hands down the greatest guitarist to ever live.

chile is how it is supposed to be spelt by jimi, to delibaretly show he couldnt pronounce the `d` at the end of child, thats what i read somewhere anyway
also would like to add to my list `2-4-6-8 motorway` tom robinson band (guitarist-sammy mitchell)- great riff and awesome solos, not many people know the guitarist though, my dad knew him and went to the bar he owned, but all (sammy) did was drink smoke and take drugs like so many other rock starsFebruary 20, 2010 at 11:05 pm #58175tdsoil2Memberthrough the fire and flames (guitar hero)- dragonforce

February 21, 2010 at 4:48 pm #58210pool96MemberSweet Home Alabama – Lynrd Skynrd
There's just so many layers of guitar work and guitar voicing in this song that you can really personalise it when you play it.
And I have to agree with all the above, ye just beat me to it. 😀

I stand corrected. In my defense its listed as Voodoo Child (Slight Return) on the one and only Jimi album I have.
February 21, 2010 at 6:49 pm #58218tommyflopMemberNo worries ;<
February 21, 2010 at 7:40 pm #58223XeroTheGreatMemberAnything by Eric Johnson. He's an amazing guitarist. Dragonforce's guitar solos sound good too, but it's all computer edited so that doesn't count lol. (They suck live to be honest)
