i-player will not happen for a start. It is only available to uk residents. They are not going to go all out to roll out an update for UK residents a pi$$ every other PS3 gamer off who doesn't live there!
25c for an avatar is really not that much, for a nice touch on your trophy card! Dynamic themes i enjoy they give a nice feel to the PS3, makes it more personal when you can change around the look and feel of it. For me all of these things add to the PS3 experience.
Sony have been fantastic with updates and content, there are a few thing that yes you do have to pay for but these are optional.Besides if Sony started to give everything away for free than there would be no PS4 or PS5 or PS99 as Sony would not exist! If you dont like the XMB and all that don't buy it or download it just set your disc to auto start and it will never matter to you but for me it is a bonus
ecurryMembernot unless you can get it fixed first, but yeah if you have it working then it is easy to transfer between consoles. I would advise the guide though you do not need to be electronic based to do it, why not get your dad or friend to help you out with the fix and double check everything
January 27, 2010 at 6:25 pm in reply to: How To Fix A Playstation 3 YLOD ( Yellow Light Of Death ) #56329ecurryMemberIf you follow the guide and do it right there is no reason why your PS3 shouldn't last as long as a refurbished model at least.
If you were considering sending it to Sony read on first. In Ireland Gamestop (EB games in the UK) where paying out 210 euro for a second hand PS3. A new slim costs only 300 euro, win win situation. Think about it like this, you have 3 choices:
- send it for replacement (Sony do not repair your model that was sent in they send you one they have already repaired ) Pay 150 euro and receive a refurb lose all your saves
- trade in a fixed one and buy a new model for 90 euro, Keep all your saves by doing a back up to a FAT32 device
- Fix the YLOD and enjoy it! Keep all your saves
Sony will accept a PS3 outside its warranty for a refurb whether the warranty sticker is there or not! As will Gamestop or your equivalent.
EDIT
I accidentally double posted the download link for part2.f4v it should have been part3.f4v here is the link fo the 3rd part :

@Finch – you have to keep in mind that when a YLOD happens, the first or second place people will go is the forums… which reading them makes it seem like its happening a lot more, since theres a huge number of ps3 owners its bound to happen.
@Pobert – that sucks. If you remove the hard drive it will need to be formatted upon reinstallation. Your data is not necessarily corrupt, although it could be. If the game was saving or writing to the HD when the system shut down, its a definite possibility, but most likely the MW2 data will be the only thing corrupted. There is a high chance that your PS3 is repairable by Sony. There is some chance you can do it yourself. If you send it in to sony (which you should do if its under warranty), expect them to format your hard drive. If you don't, theres a pretty DIY guide on this forum. If you want your data back, I would look for an external hard drive adapter, it will allow you to remove the hard drive and connect it via USB to a computer as if it is an external, and back up your data. I'm currently looking into getting one, but debating on whether or not its worth the money. Good luck.
Don't buy an external HDD casing if you want to back up your data. It wil not be read on a PC. This could corrupt the partition and cause a reboot. PS3 use there own File system which isn't recognised by any PC system. If you connect it to the PC and any changes are made with out your knowledge, especially with Vista, then it will cause you to have to reformat and lose everything. The only way to back up your saves with a working PS3 is with a FAT32 file system flash drive or external HDD and copy them over manually. The only way to back up saves with a broken PS3 is by fixing it to access the XMB and do a manual back up with your external source!!!
NB
I forgot to mention before in my guide that if you choose to send your PS3 to be replaced by a refurb through sony then you will have to disable the system activation on the console, otherwise if you don't you will lose out on 1 account and be stuck with 4 accounts instead of 5.
ecurryMember1) no
2) no
3) unlikely, not in my experiences anyway
There is a topic in Forums>PS3 related discussion>.. on how to repair a PS3 if you are interested
Removing the HDD while powered down and dismantled does not require a reformat, it is as though the PS3 never broke. I have done this 5-6 times now and the biggest plus is that the HDD image stays intact and saves are still accessible
ecurryMemberMP works on some games and not others. I think any game can be made MP as long as it is programmed well and servers are well managed . It all boils down to the developers and the company that hosts the games for them. I wouldn't rule out an MP experience on any game until i have experienced it for myself, just my opinion.
ecurryMemberI have this plat but i would be willing to help out if anyone needs it! I just copied the MGS level i made and repeated it over and over until i ran out of levels and i got a few friends to heart them all! The author hearts took a while longer though!

Just another trick a friend showed me!

LOL on the cat The cat was in with me sittin on my chair behind my back when i made the video It made an appearance at some stage towards the end but cant remember if i edited it out! Good Luck with it.
What you could also do is fix it so that it works and if you do not trust it anymore trade it in and you will get Euro210 towards a new PS3 or games 🙂 Gamestop were buying used consoles for E210 here anyway! and with the slim only 300 why not 🙂
January 22, 2010 at 10:34 pm in reply to: How To Fix A Playstation 3 YLOD ( Yellow Light Of Death ) #56120ecurryMemberWhat model PS3 do you have?
If it is the 60 GB model i would say the casing could possibly be taken off to reveal the disc sitting inside. It is not something I have tried to do because i have gotten it out when i fixed the console. I will check it out later on when i get home to verify but i can't imagine there would be a mechanical automatic release switch. So unless you perform the YLOD fix I would think your best bet would be taking the cover off the BR Drive.
I wouldn't recommend sticking anything into the slot or shaking the console, it could damage the disc.
EDIT
Ok i had a quick look at a 60 GB PS3 BRDrive and to be honest it is not something i would be willing to take apart and risk not putting it back together again. There doesn't seem to be any release switch, as i first thought, and when i took off the casing around the drive there were a few springs and mechanical arms needing to be removed from the drive in order to get the disc out. My advice would be to perform the YLOD fix
ecurryMemberThis game looks pretty class and want it hope i have the funds!
