I just ordered the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (500GB, 7200rpm)
Fastest 2.5″ drive around, and reviews say its pretty quiet and pretty low power for such a drive. Can't wait to get it.
Will post speed/load time comparisons soon

Lahmy: I do have some concerns though, because my PS3 acts funny if I leave it on for extended periods of time. I can't figure out if its overheating or what, sometimes it just locks up. So I'll sign up and do a few runs and see what happens. If I have any trouble figuring things out I'll either post here or just send you a PM.
The PlayStation 3 is a super-reliable piece of kit.. My PS3 has been folding close to 18 months straight, and without a hiccup! I know there is blokes out there who have been running for over 2 years straight with no troubles as well.
If there is troubles with ya PS3, i'd suggest you contact Sony Support. What 'funny' things is it doing, i might have heard of it before. How often does it lock up? I keep my PS3 in a very open area, DO NOT run your PS3 in an enclosed cabinet.. its the quickest way to kill it! Also, is yours an original 60 or 20GB model, or one of the first 80GB models? Coz i believe they're using 90nm CELL chips and use about 200W of power whilst folding, so obviously get fairly bloody warm! I've got a 40GB which uses about 125W whilst folding, but in Summer, anything over 30 degrees C inside will make the fan spin loud as.. so just watch where u place the PS3 in ya lounge room. Place it as low as possible (heat rises) and whilst ya home, leave windows open in ya lounge room when ya room temperature is a fair bit higher than outsides (when obviously its also comfortable for you to do as well)
Anyone with any questions at all bout LwP/F@H can either post here or send me a PM.. i'm easy.
Also i'd like to make a request with the forum moderator to please sticky this post (its the site's Folding@Home team) and please remove all the crap posts clogging the first couple of pages, because i'm sure there is people who begin to read this thread, then get turned away by all the outright negative, misinformed material that they read after my first post. Thankyou
Lahmy88MemberGuys, i'm going to be hosting a ranked/dedicated server for the 'Bandwidth Donor' Gold trophy on this Friday, 22nd May @ 8pm (GMT+10 East Standard Time – Australia) (so 10am GMT time) and although i know i don't need players to get the trophy, i'd like for some to play anyway. I'm looking for atleast 8 players.. my upload speed means i max out at 12 players.
Thanks guys

[allps3trohies.com]_mlbrookeuk
mate i appreciate ya joining the team.. very much.. but if you could please change your name to exactly [AllPS3Trophies.com]_mlbrookeuk (with _PS3 on end if you've got a PS3)
I know it seems picky, but in order for everyone's stats in a subteam to line up.. everyone needs correct spelling and using capitals…
get in contact with me too.. [email protected]
Cheers mate
EDIT: Shit! Just realised in my signature.. i've got Trohies! lol

You can even put a sub-team within a sub-team if you like.. just ask me how… Theres gotta be some Killzone 2 clans or other game clans out there that would be able to use Life with PlayStation a little, whilst ya not on the games.
Put it this way, there is well above 10 million PS3s out there, less than a million have ever tried Life with PlayStation / Folding@Home, and only 40,000 of those are 'actively' folding (roughly one work unit a week to be active).. Folding@Home is a great project and i know there would be a lot of people out there who would fold a lot, simply if they knew about the program and if they had friends folding as well.
April 12, 2009 at 11:46 am in reply to: Join the All PS3 Trophies Folding@Home Sub-Team to help fight diseases! #23043Lahmy88MemberVERY IMPORTANT FOR ANYONE JOINING THE TEAM!
To be a part of the All PS3 Trophies subteam.. you'll have to follow this exactly
Still use 52735 as your team no. but you'll have to put this username in, instead of what i used in my first post (which i cannot edit now sorry)
Type everything exactly as below.. subsituting username for what you'd like as your name
If you are folding on a PlayStation 3 .. please use this format:
[AllPS3Trophies.com]_username_PS3
Otherwise leave the _PS3 off the end such as:
[AllPS3Trophies.com]_username
The changes have been made to encourage ppl to visit allps3trophies.com and the brackets help in differentiating between regular team members and those in subteams.
Thankyou

3. What type has the hardrive got to be? , im pretty sure its a laptop 2.5″ SATA but im not sure.
A: 2.5 SATA is correct sir! I've heard that 500 gigs don't work though. I have a 320 gig but it only recognises it as a 300 gig one.
2.5″ laptop hard drive.. apparently some larger hard drives data-wise are also slightly physically 'taller' and these types i've heard will not fit in the PS3 bay.. so thats possibly why Doctor_Rock is mentioning 500GBs might not fit.. but i dare say there is 500GB models out there which are small enough physically to fit into the PS3.. i just gotta do some research myself coz i'll upgrade my hard drive after i see this PlayTV goes here (in Australia).
It will only recognize 300/320GB coz of computer system 'formatting' and the fact that Hard drive manufacturers quote a kilobyte as being 1000 bytes instead of 1024 so u lose a bit out of every hard drive.. especially noticeable with larger hard drive sizes.
Lahmy88MemberI think the addition of instant messaging text chat is great.. it's completely annoying constantly writing up new messages.. and then waiting for replies.. PS3 IM = GREAT ADDITION!
However the rest of the updates are pretty crap and its unfortunate the rumours weren't entirely true.
I believe Sony needs to spend a LOT MORE TIME working on OS improvements.. there is so much they could achieve.. and the PS3 has so much potential. Please for the love of god take away the shitty hypervisor on Linux etc.. so Linux development on PS3 can be improved. I want a Cell verision of a H.264 encoding program madeup.. but coz theres no interest in PS3 Linux.. there is none available.
thats my bitch anyways

although i support it, im not really one for competitions.
hmm thats fair enough. I find however a lot of people.. unless they are INTO science.. the stats is the only thing that keeps them interested in Folding@Home.. it's not how it should be.. but unfortunately it's how it is.. so donator stats & team stats create a healthy competition and encourage people to contribute more.
I honestly believe Distributed Computing is something everyone should do if they can.. even if its not Folding@Home (although it is the best one! lol) Heaps of people banding together can do really do great things!
Lahmy88Memberright now? Killzone 2 Platinum! how far am i away? probably atleast a year! lol
March 31, 2009 at 12:00 pm in reply to: Join the All PS3 Trophies Folding@Home Sub-Team to help fight diseases! #22625Lahmy88MemberI'd really love to get atleast 10 of yas on board for the All PS3 Trophies subteam as i plan to invite people from other websites and forums to join up with their own subteam as well, and it'd be cool to have a bit more competition within the team.
If you not really keen on folding too much i suggest just pickin atleast one day a week where you leave your PS3 folding.. and then before you goto bed, set it to auto-shutdown after current, and that way you'll be clear until next week! I'm gunna try and encourage all my PS3 folding members to atleast fold every friday for 'Foldathon Fridays' so if ya want.. join in on fridays! lol
